Come on now man. Being better does not imply that he is more exciting. Not all of his fights are exciting but IMO no way are they boring. That unreal speed for a HW is ,relatively speaking, better than Pac's speed at WW. Pacquiao, much as I'm a huge fan, should not yet be considered in the running for GOAT the way Ali is.

First of all, Ali was not exciting to watch, he was a loud mouth disrespectful bastard, and was pretty much hated by America, nobody called him "the greatest" he was the mayweather of that time, people called him a coward for facing smaller men than him, and for fighting guys with limited skills, he only fought a coule hard fights.

People got the wrong info on Ali in here, it makes me laugh when these geniuses act like they've witnesses his fights and he was this unstoppable force.
Ive only read your post, but youre actually telling some truth with your post, the fact about him always calling himself the greatest, it caught on with people, especially when he started to predict rounds he would KO opponents. As the legend grew with him beating good fighters, but the thread title is incorrect.

Ali was not only very good at boxing, he was great for promoting. He brought big popularity to boxing with his loud mouth and his controversial decision to not become a draftee in the war. It's really ironic because lots of the boxers he fought didn't know that Ali was bringing in all kinds of audiences and revenue

How many times did Cassius Clay get knocked down? I don't know, but it seems like I remember some guy coming off a barstool as a replacement fighter and surprising Clay. Clay went to the mat then too. He lost 5 or 6 fights right? What's so great about that?
