Maybe Margarito started cheating after the P. Williams fight. And before that, he won but did not drop Clottey. Maybe after those 2 fights, he and his team realize that it was harder to beat top 10 rank fighters.

Which coincidentally, fits perfectly with the following picture. As you can also tell, the fact that the blood stain was bigger on the outside and slowly shrunk in size lets you know the blood came from outside the wrap. The only person bleeding in that fight with Cotto. Yes, it doesn't 100% prove he used against Cotto, but there is also just enough to make it look that he very well did.

cheating is something that turns into a habit once u have success , In his case there's no way to know , but given his success , in his previous fight , and how he was able to stop cintron who is not a great fighter but he stopped him even quicker , id say it was used before , I gave him the benefit of the doubt but after his response "I didnt know what was in my trainer was putting in my wraps" , At least to me , there is no doubt in my mind he did.
