I have some money on Morrell, I was going to double or treble it but Im not sure. Nothing to do with this made up rubbish but I didn't like the way Morrell acted at weigh-in. He kept stuffing his hands into his pockets. That was kinda weird body language. I didn't like that. It didn't suggest confidence.
I'm generally not a fan of hard sparring, but this kind of fight is definitely when it's important and useful. You want to know that you aren't going to buckle under real pressure from a guy with a great engine who throws punches in bunches, and you want to know that going into the fight. When you're not in camp, or if you're fighting other styles, technical sparring is IMO more helpful, but it's hard to fight a hard hitting pressure fighter without actually feeling that pressure and pain.

Rumors of a knockdown in sparring, or a supposedly bad session don’t impress me. Happens often enough. What counts is what you bring on fight night. Sparring is sparring and fighting is fighting. They’re related, but not the same. There have been boxers known to look great in sparring that couldn’t translate that to their actual fights. But I kind of agree about Morrell’s attitude at the face-off. Does it mean something? I don’t know. But he did appear to me to be a little sheepish.
Just read the full article. The rumor, as is usually the case, sounds like total BS. And if David really did do 133 rounds of hard sparring, he couldn’t be more ready for tomorrow night’s clash with Benavidez.
