Comments Thread For: David Morrell Jnr: Beterbiev deserved win over Bivol in first fight, likely wins rematch as well

David Morrell Jnr will be an interested observer when Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol meet a second time on February 22. He thinks Beterbiev's experience will be the key once again in the rematch.

Beterbiev only hit gloves, bivo l won. Beterbiev took some flush punches, he did well to not go down, good chin

I’m the exact opposite: I thought Bivol deserved the win in the first fight and think he will win the rematch.

I thought Bivol won the first fight but have zero issues with anyone who thinks Beterbiev did. Beterbiev has more routes to victory and can clearly hang in the boxing department with Bivol. I think Bivol will be forced to open up more to try to score more points, and that will give Beterbiev more opportunities to hurt him. He fought a very good fight in the first time, but now he's a challenger and Beterbiev has the extra rounds banked already for being the champ and A-side. Unless Beterbiev ages overnight, it's going to be even harder for Bivol this time to win because he likely can't win on points in a close fight.

Yeah this is the thing, whilst Beterbiev was hitting gloves he was moving Bivol around and some of those punches definitely hurt through the guard. But in professional boxing, those are not supposed to be counted. So a lot of the success that Beterbiev was having shouldn't have been scored under traditional rules, whether we agree with that or not.

I definitely think Bivol "fell away" from some of those punches to take the sting out too, which wasn't great optics for scoring.

Beterbiev will show much less respect for Bivol and will start where he left off in the 12th round from the first fight
He took Bivol’s best punch and wasn’t fazed to say the least
By Artur jumping on him early , I expect this time Bivol to actually attempt to fight the man and consequently losing this fight by ko

              Long live The King Artur

No, Beterbiev did not deserve to get the decision.

I guess that's a big problem with boxing scoring, the subjectivity of it.

Three people (judges) can sit leaning on the ring apron and view the fight completely differently.

They won't admit it, but most have different opinions on how much importance is placed on ring generalship, defence, clean punches landed to head and body, etc.

I thought Beterbiev deserved the win
I just have a hard time scoring a fight for someone who doesn’t engage in a boxing match
Had Bivol gotten the win then it would have been based on potshots and running imo
I believe this second fight , Artur will show Bivol much less respect and begin where he ended the first one possibly with a late ko
