Imagine suing somebody for battery in a professionally sanctioned fight.

I’ve heard Devin Haney is also planning to sue his doctor for ***ual assault after his most recent prostate examination.

The only time I think battery was valid in the ring is when that one guy got sucker punched by his opponent in the post fight interview.

Yeah the Harlem Hammer, he ended up being a convicted murderer too.

Now we have these millennials suing their opponents for beating them up in a licensed contest.

      Boxing is such mess.

Yeah just leave out the part where his opponent cheated with performance enhancing drugs as if that doesn't make a "mess" out of boxing.

Do you realise how many fighters would be liable for battery because they took PED’s?

It’s absolutely laughable to sue someone for whooping your ass in an officially licensed contest.

I don't agree with him suing but if he wins I have no sympathy for Ryan Garcia.

I can’t see Haney winning this case because if he does, it would set a precedent for other fighters to be able to follow suit.

On the other hand, the argument Haney is going to present (and it’s certainly plausible) is that the outcome has severely diminished his earning potential (regardless of the post-fight admonishment Garcia received when the test results came out).

The other point Haney could present (and is true) is that what Garcia had in his system isn’t just a flimsy or casual by-product of something you could potentially or innocently ingest while in training camp. What Garcia had in his system was from anabolics…something that gives you an edge in muscle recovery IN COMBAT WHERE THE OBJECTIVE IS TO HURT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.

I could give two ****s how this unfolds, but like another poster said: if Garcia loses his case, I won’t feel sorry for him.

The guy comes in 3.5 pounds overweight, scores three knockdowns, has PEDS in his system…and still with all that only edged Haney.

We are seeing a trend where more and more fighters are starting to waive the weight limit and gamble losing their contract (or tv dates) by pulling these stunts off just to get an advantage. The fines are hardly a deterrent anymore. If I am a main event fighter, and I’m making $4,000,000 in the headline where the penalty is, what, 10% to have an unfair weight advantage and potential upside for pulling off the upset…it could be more common occurrence as time goes by. Keyshawn Davis blasted out a severely overweight opponent but that could’ve veeeeeery easily gone sideways. Lemos didn’t even TRY to make weight, just as Garcia.

Ryan was on steroids. Frankly, more boxers need to do this when opponents test positive. Might deter use in the future.
