Was that expected say 4 or 5 years ago? People thought Usyk would get killed if he stepped up and it turns out he had AJ out on his feet in the first fight.

So do you really believe an experienced James Toney one of the greatest fighters of the late 80s/90s wouldn't be able to beat a stiff, upright Joshua who has average stamina at best? I'd love to hear why you believe differently because outside of a hail mary by Joshua, Toney would mentally break him even before he threw punch and inside the ring would have way too many assets to his game for Joshua. You can't honestly tell me you think AJ would outbox Toney? Come on...

Although we haven't crossed paths I've seen you post on here and consider you one of the better ppl on the forum who actually talks sense so im surpised you think this I mean sure Toney was far from great at Heavyweight but he was cut from a different cloth and modern day fighters like AJ would have a whole world of trouble facing him

This era is terrible absolute garbage and it isn't nostalgia talking when you get the ghost of Pacquiao coming back and beating up Keith Thurman for example. Boxing and boxers don't have the trainers or the same guts those old school fighters had and I'd pick Toney to beat a guy who didn't start boxing until he was 18
Slow down you making too much sense for somebody like Iron Dan

James Toney does not have a win over John Ruiz. How many times do you need to be told that?

Evander Holyfield was 41 years old and 2-2-2 in his last 6 fights you moron You are going to say that was a good win, are you? I'd be careful with your answer knowing your history of calling other fighters shot.

Literally not one single logical point was made in that post you fool

Why do you keep returning to this thread? Haven't you been embarrassed enough?

Toney never looked any good in the higher weight divisions let alone at HW where he was fat and totally immobile.
HW Toney was kind of reminiscent of Kevin Johnson just stood static, no work rate, just eating shots, failing miserably at doing a shoulder roll.
His whole style at HW was him just waiting and hoping you threw a right hand slow enough for him to eventually roll it and come back with his own.

James Toney's career is total fantasy to most of his "fans" who parrot this nonsense. There is no way any of them actually followed his career or have seen him fight other than youtube highlights.

We have people, albeit thankfully very seldom, in this thread saying Toney would "school" AJ when Toney didn't "school" a single top level fighter in his entire career.

Can't beat the likes of Sam Peter on two attempts or a finished Hasim Rahman and yet is somehow magically going to school and knock out AJ. Comical.

This is the same guy who was easily beaten by unranked journeyman in his prime multiple times. People aren't even aware these things even happened and when its brought to their attention then just ignore it or make every excuse under the sun for it.

I somehow forgot how awful Sam Peter was but yeah that is HW Toney.

I don't know what it is about Toney though but he always seems to get really, horribly overrated in every sense. Its almost like people see his highlight reels (mostly against Barkley) and they really overrate everything about him, his defence especially and its like people talk of him like he was still the MW version when he moved through the weights, which really was not the case at all. Very good fighter just not at the higher weights and for me he certainly didn't have close to the best defence ever like I've seen many people claim (I think his chin is far more impressive than his defence - He got hit a heap in every fight). Even his skills are rather overrated for me, he was actually a pretty limited fighter.

Also an undisputed heavy champ and Joshua never beat anyone on his level skillwise

                      Agreed on all points.

Will say, even the "Middleweight version" which is ironically the version his fans say is the "peak Toney" is the same Toney who drew with Sanderline Williams, lost to Dave Tiberi, arguably lost to Merqui Sosa, was very lucky to get a decision over Reggie Johnson after getting dropped and totally schooled for the first 5 rounds to an almost embarrassing level and totally dominated by Micheal Nunn for 10 rounds before pulling out a KO essentially out of no where.
