It's Mayweather effect. It's all about facing the least risky fights for the most money facing WELL Known Names.
De La Hoya was old
Marquez was 2 divsions lower
Mosley was old
Canelo was Green and drained
Pacman was not near his peak, been beating multiple times already
McGregor was a name
One Maidana in his "prime" and Mayweather struggles needing a rematch.
Also waiting for the highest Risk fights till later age like Crawford vs Spence and now Tank waiting to take high risk fights. Finallywanting to face an old Loma. Canelo not taking on Benavidez. It's clearly the fighters specially if they are the A side.

VERY GOOD POST & TRUE.!!! Fighters want to keep their "0", do mismatches, enforce clauses, demand to too much $$ for a real fight. Fraud "the Goat" Mayweather ruined sport.!! It's crazy how dumb fans think he's the greatest after he messed it up!!
Some hate on this thread about mayweather and I do agree to a point but mayweather also was an all time great. He did take some opportunistic fights but he came up from LW all the way to MW and won every title along the way. Do I think prime Pac-Man and Prime Oscar and prime Mosley beat him? Probably. I thought cotto did very well and cotto was old ODLH did well and he was old too but you can’t discount those wins. Fighters today aren’t on that level. They just think they are.
Unfortunately, Mayweather taught Canelo the bad habit of straight-out avoiding fighters. Canelo being the face of boxing has kept that terrible example of cherry picking and fighting tomato cans and getting paid well for doing it. Morrell and Benavidez Jr are trying to break this vicious cycle of avoiding top fights. These guys are fighting each other in their primes. Economics are keeping the fights from being made as well. Guys are getting paid well for their fighting services and don't fight as often. Promoters don't like each other either so certain fights won't be made. The list goes on and on.

I agree with you about Mayweather but he never fought a fight where he wasn't sure whether he could win or not because the other guy was just as skilled. He didn't have a Thomas Hearn, Duran or Hagler on the other side waiting to fight him. A prime Mosley, Pacquaio and De La Hoya would have beaten him. He waited out those fights until those guys were older.

Two points to reinforce your overall point:
Floyd came up all the way from SFW, and (as I love to point out) Floyd is OLDER than Manny P.
There is more than enough blame to go around. Promoters protect their young stars, which teaches the young stars they can be great without doing anything. Sanctioning bodies enforce mandatories with scrubs who have earned nothing and look the other way with established stars that earn them cash. In their prime, the HBO and Showtime sports divisions refused to work with each other, and when DAZN and ESPN picked up the scraps of the 2 networks dropping boxing they gleefully continued the lunacy of insulating their stable of fighters from the other.
Luckily, there seems to forces bringing the pendulum swing back the other way. The biggest hurdle left is to teach fighters that losses are not the end of their careers. For all the criticism of Anthony Joshua, his earning power continuing to be solid even after his losses is a good thing. If we as a boxing fan base reward boxers who lose with our continued support so long as they are daring to be great, I think another golden age might be starting.
Yep.... I am boxing fan. I expect to have my hopes destroyed even as I let them get built up...
