In DC we refer to this as "hustling backwards". No one was talking about the Boot's fight before Nov 9th and now all they're talking about is how bad you look. Your bum azz promoter isn't even defending your performance because he's to busy trying to convince you to move to 154 to save his fledgling company. Get over to PBC Jaron. Give Al a call Ak!
I kinda feel bad for this Boots guy.
He's being mismanaged but I'm not sure PBC would do a better job than Matchroom or any other alphabet soup promotion.
Not trying to argue with you, but I don't see a difference. I think the problem is more systemic with boxing overall.
Last night I watched a vid from 1979 of 25 year-old light heavy contender Marvin Johnson KTFO WBA Champ Victor Galindez (a legitimate bad ass) in Round 11.
25! Made me think Boots is wasting his prime years. What a shame for him and the fans for a touted generational talent.

Time to give up becoming "Undisputed" at 147! It's a pointless pursuit! There's no legacy fights @ 147! Hearn should get him Vergil Ortiz Jr., or Israil Madrimov! Hopefully a MatchRoom vs. GBP "5x5" takes place in '25!

Yes, I could see greatness in all of those fighters you mention long before they were great, but there were many others who failed and were forgotten quickly. I do not worship Breadman because I think he is a bit too much in love with Boots to be objective probably because it is personal for him. I think he feels he discovered him and is invested in his success.

In terms of people who looked good on the eye test but failed to be great in the long run you can just look at Anthony Joshua. A few years ago he looked like an unbeatable heavyweight king. But unfortunately, a few tough match ups later, the eye ball test turns out to ssshhiiittt. The all conquering hero has been found to have a lot of *****s in his armor.

All I am saying about Boots - we don't know yet, as he has not been tested. He looks good, he might be good or he might fail.
I don't know about 20-30. More like 4 or 5 - in other words for every 4 or 5 who pass the eye test and look as if they can go on to be unified champions then only one achieves it. I disagree a bit with Joshua. While he is not as good as hyped, and leaving aside the money, he has had a tremendous career - unified champion, twice champion and he- was prominent in re-energising the HW division after the dull Klitschko years.

I see the Ruiz fight as an anomaly for a few reasons but he has lost twice to Usyk and no shame in that and to Dubois and the jury is still out on Dubois - he may go on to be considered a great HW. I thinkk he was over-hyped for twwo reasons a/ because Hearn is a very astute marketer - he correctly guessed that the British public long for a successful HW and b/ because he's a British HW - us brits don't have that much success as a sports nation - at least not as much as the British psyche feels entitled to have (based on the colonial era pride) - so many of us fell for the hype.

When I see someone like Ennis I always have some small doubts until I see how they react to solid punches. Well we know he's not "chinny" now but he's not got a granite chin either - so he needs to pick up his defence. If he doesn't then he can probably forget unifying at 160 and 168 as he's stated.

I believe Boots real problems are "psychologica"l: lots of pressure from being told he's a superstar in the making, also a bit too full of himself, plus family issues with his dad, and to finish, confused about division he should evolve in.

We go through this every few years, fans prop up an unproven guy because he’s blasting through smaller men and d, c, b fighters. Ennis has not even really shown elite offense, but people put the blinders on. Much like broner, then gervonta, now ennis, these guys pad their records with no hopers and fans fall in love. It’s why I’m glad they called Davis a 30 year old prospect, same applies to boots.

I'm tired of hearing about how great Boots is without seeing him step up in competition.

There are a bunch of really good fighters at 154, go there and fight some of them. Anything less is time-wasting.

When I mentioned Joshua I was just talking about an eye ball test and how unreliable it is. Before the Ruiz fight, I would put money on Joshua beating Ruiz, Usyk and Dubois - that is how good he looked.

Boots is a great athlete and very strong. As I said on another thread, he didn't get to almost 30 having never fought anyone at all, with all that hype, by chance. He is one of the most protected fighters I've ever seen. His team don't put him in with big threats. He turned the Bud fight down, and it is very obvious why he did now. Bud would have stopped him, Ennis has huge defensive flaws. Gaping.

He can improve. Time will tell. He has the physical gifts.
