    NSB PICK EM 2023 #1 : SATURDAY 7th JANUARY 2023

    Saturday 7th January 2023

    Washington DC, USA (UTC-5)

    Gervonta Davis (27-0-0)

    Vs

    Hector Luis Garcia
    (16-0-0)

    (12 ROUNDS)

    BETTING ODDS:

Davis: (-1400) Garcia: (+800) x3 on Hector Luis

Optional multipliers only applicable on Garcia

    Ways fighters can win:

    12 ROUND FIGHTS:

    DECISION: CLOSE (0-9), CLEAR (10 - 18), WIDE (19+)
KO: EARLY (1-4), MID (5-8) or LATE (9-12)

    10 ROUND FIGHTS:

    DECISION: CLOSE (0-8), CLEAR (9 - 15), WIDE (16+)
KO: EARLY (1-3), MID (4-6) or LATE (7-10)

Examples of the ways you can state your decision:

PICK EM CREW, Garcia, KO, Mid x5
PICK EM CREW, TANK, WIDE x2
PICK EM CREW GARCIA KO LATE
If no multiplier is specified in your pick (ie x2, x3) then it will be assumed that no multiplier is being used (x1)
If you wish to pick a Draw result, simply state your Username, both fighter names and DRAW, ie:

PICK EM CREW, DAVIS GARCIA DRAW

    NOTES:
-Picking the correct winner earns 20 pts
-Picking the correct method earns 10 pts
-Picking the correct detail is worth 10 pts
-Draws are worth 150 pts. A perfect pick without a multiplier is 40pts.

-CLOSE is 8 or fewer pts difference, eg 116 - 112, 115 -113 115 - 113 or closer. CLEAR is 9 - 17 pts difference, eg below 117 - 111 on all three cards WIDE is 18 points or over ie an average of 117 -111 or above on all three cards

-If you'd like to change your pick before the fight starts, post in this thread to do so. Ideally tag me so that I don't miss it.

-2X doubles your points and 3X triples your points. Everyone starts with 10 doubles and 6 triples to use throughout the year. If you forget how many you have left, check the leaderboard in the master thread. Every player also has 3 x5 special multipliers which can be only be used on an underdog (+100 or greater) fighter.

    ...............

If I could ask one of the mods to kindly sticky this thread and remove anything else Pick Em related except the 2022 masterthread, be greatly appreciated. And thanks once again for your help gentlemen.

Okay Gentlemen, the new season is upon us - and we might have a slightly deceptive one on our hands to kick off the New Year and the 2023 season. Course Tank is the rightful favourite but the bookies have it absurdly wide given that Hector Luis is an unbeaten contender who's displayed some great skills in overcoming Gutierrez and blue chip prospect Colbert.

I expect most of you know what you're doing by now but for the benefit of any new players we might entice in for 2023 the basic system is explained in the post above and further details on the rules can be found in the upcoming 2023 Masterthread - although in the meantime the 2022 Masterthread still stickied should give you a pretty good idea to be going on with.

There is likely to be a few minor rules changes which are still under discussion but there won't be anything that changes the fundamental nature of how you make picks and so on.

For veteran players the only immediate thing to take note of is that I made the decison to not allow the use of optional multipliers on wide favourites - the final detail of the rules is yet to be decided... possibly it'll be a case of no multipliers to be played on the favourite if there's a multplier on the underdog (ie the underdog is +300 or greater) or possibly it'll be that all multipliers (not just x5s) will only be playable on the bookies' underdog (ie fighters with aggregate odds of +100 or greater).

In any event you will not be able to play multipliers on Tank in this Pick Em although if you wish to play one on Garcia you will have the option of either a x2 a x3 or a x5 - we are keeping all 3 types of multipliers in 2023 although you may have less of em this year so the advice would be to use em a little more sparingly that perhaps you got used to in 2022.

OKay - I reckon that's enough to be getting on with for now and I gotta go anyway cos it's Juniors 15th Birthday today and he just crawled out of bed looking for presents so Ima have to go.

Best of luck gentlemen - and as ever, a pleasure having you with us for another year.

    Kind regards

    K

EDIT: And of course as ever a warm welcome to any new or returning players who wish to join us in 2023.

In regards to the multipliers, maybe cap it at around -200? (1/2 UK odds) I think it would still be fair to use them on fighters who are 10/11, 4/5, 4/6 etc as it’s essentially still a 50/50 fight in those cases.

We can't use multipliers on Tank as per the new rule (read above what Koba wrote)... and in any case x5 multipliers are only for underdogs, my friend.
