I don't disagree with that . If he directly goes and fight Maidana he has slim to none chances as per the experts and i also believe same . In that case he any how loses his belt so why not relinquish and fight these before taking on Maidana . Money wise he is not losing anything After all he has achieved what he was longing for ( WBA Belt ).

He has the talent to be a hall of famer. Whether he can realise that talent remains to be seen, but with Roach in his corner he has a good chance. The WBA belt was a stepping stone, nothing more. But if he ducks the first really meaningful test of his career, to the point of giving up his belt to avoid someone who isn't even an A level fighter, his career's effectively over. He won't have any fans left if he does that, and no one would pay to see him. Maidana is a very limited fighter with a big punch. He's a good gatekeeper, nothing more. Beating him will allow Khan to lay to rest the gremlins about his chin. If he's not ready to beat him after the Salita fight, he never will be. If he can't beat a fighter as limited as Maidana, he'll never be a top level fighter and for someone to call themselves a world champion but then give up a belt rather than face anyone who can fight, he'd lose all credibility, and his career as a contender that anyone takes seriously would be over.

In any case, though, there's a good chance that Maidana will lose to whoever he fights in November and Khan's mandatory will be someone else.

alright i re-read your post and i see that you knew that my bad foo...but hey you never know i personally think its too early in his career to tell if he has the ability to not fold under the pressure...i guess we'll just have to wait and see what this kid is really made of

WBA interim-junior welterweight champion Marcos Maidana has a target on his back. Not because of his current status, but because of his current position to champion Amir Khan. Golden Boy Promotions is trying to put Maidana in the co-feature spot to the Lucian Bute-Librado Andrade rematch on November 28 on HBO. There is no official word if Maidana will get on the show. I think Khan is really coming into his own as a young champion. He has a promoter willing to buy time for him while he assimilates to the Freddie Roach doctrines of boxing, while maturing and putting his in-ring traumas of yesteryear behind him.

I do think Maidana will be a tough SOB to deal with for Khan, perhaps too tough at the moment. I'd like to see Khan one more time before I make up my mind on what Maidana's chances are but from what I can tell, this is a rough little guy who just keeps coming.

There's a recent Roach interview floatin' around on Yout*be and he said that he'd like Maidana to reach a higher level of popularity before pitting Khan against him as Maidan is a high-risk, low reward for now.

I do agree with you though, Maidana is a tough sob, I mean, Ortiz is a powerful puncher and Maidana got up not once, but three times and came back to whup Ortiz, that's what fighters are made of.

Khan, I think is actually a more difficult target because a) he's fast as hell b) he's got one of the best jabs out there and it's only gonna get better. c)he's a rangy fighter

Agree that Kahn wins every second of every round for as long as the fight goes but to avoid being hit with a clean hard shot for all 12 is no easy feat. As soon as Maidana gets off with something solid, Kahn is hitting the canvas.
