Comments Thread For: Not Securing Rematch Clause Relegated Loma To Fighting Big Underdogs Lopez Already Beat

By Keith Idec - NEW YORK - Vasiliy Lomachenko likely will regret the curiously cautious approach he took to the first half of his fight against Teofimo Lopez for the rest of his life.

I'm beginning to gain respect for Loma, but he needs Teofimo. He can get Kambo, but revenge is sweet. I knew he'd never get to 20-1, but the losses are toughening him up, so far.

I have to disagree here. Sometimes rematch clauses will allow other bouts to take place, such as an interim title fight, before the rematch is executed. This third party challenger would then have to be bound to fight the original boxer entitled to the rematch should the challenger win. This would be a very similar situation where Kambosos would be the challenger, someone fighting the winner before the rematch could take place. And in this instance, should Kambosos actually choose to fight Lomachenko, then it really is a case of there being two ways up a mountain.

I think things could be far worse, considering. Things look very good for Loma now that Lopez lost. I don't see this as something to view negatively. Had he had the belts, who would he have fought anyway? He would have fought Kambosos.

Lets face it: Loma is never going to fight Davis. And he beat Lopez the first time, he would have never been able to secure a fight with Davis. Garcia would still have had his mental breakdown. Haney would still be saying one thing and then doing another, such as pricing himself out.

I don't see there being too much difference in the outcome of things, rematch clause or not.

Clearly a bad move for Loma's team. He could however still have an option to fight the likes of Ryan Garcia (end the hype), Gervonta Davis (ideal fight that can revive his career for a great purse but I doubt Mayweather will allow that risk), another epic Linares fight (would love to see that again).

How? How would he have been able to fight Garcia when Garcia had a mental breakdown and then a busted hand. That wouldn't have changed had Loma won. And how would he have fought Davis when Davis has boycotted Loma since 2014? He's been saying he'll fight Loma next year for the last seven years.

The only person Loma would have fought had he rematched Lopez and won is Kambosos. And that takes us exactly where we are now.

Let's be honest, Loma only fought Lopez because he was mandatory, and i"no rematch" was entirely Lomas decision. He is where he is because he did what he did.

Ppl complain about Boxers securing rematch clauses then shake their heads when Boxers don't. And now we get this BS about fighting left overs.

Lopez has beaten Commey, so Commey is Lopez left overs for Loma to fight. So fkking what? Commey is still a good fighter and there are only so many good match ups in each division.

Loma didn't secure a rematch. Whoopie fkking doo. Personally I don't believe there should be rematch clauses anyway.

Loma should have realised Lopez and his dad are cowardly mofos and add the clause Eddie Hearn style. Loma has been shafted as whole division is too cowardly to fight this guy Haney etc all hiding

Idiot who dont know shyte about boxing spotted. It was Loma's team who didnt put a rematch clause because he was so confident he could beat a 23yr old Teofimo.

                  Gtfoh Loma dong slurper

Loma could have fought Haney but he decided that a franchise title was his best move. He wants to double back and it'll cost TR if the wants that WBC belt. I'm not upset at all.

Fight your mandatories! I guarantee Team Haney didn't have a crazy purse request then.
