At what point will Floyd Mayweather get the credit he deserves?

Floyd was a great boxer, but I think he carefully navigated his career as he moved up in weight. He took hardly any real risks after 135. For reasons I still don't immediately understand, he became a superstar, and he took full advantage of the rewards of being a superstar in boxing - he fought all his fights at home, against opponents he seemed to choose, and always on his terms.
I think Floyd would have been tough to beat for virtually anyone in a neutral site, at the weights he fought at. He could have held his own vs anyone that comes to mind all-time for me - but he has very few fights where he came into the fight against a prime opponent at their best weight, in a relatively neutral site.
It's hard to be a superstar in boxing and truly take risks - it's just too easy (and smart) to use your leverage to control your fights, and rake in the money.
I'm not mad at the guy though - if for example he went to the Phillipines and KOed Pacman 5 years before they actually fought, I would be one of his biggest supporters as far as 'greatness' goes. But most people who hate him now, would still probably take shots at him even if he had a win or 5 like that.
So no point in trying to please those people. Might as well just protect your faculties and try and make some money and have some fun.

between the two of them manny was the one to most recently receive a beneficial decision in Vegas
in his 3rd match with Marquez
Floyd schooled Alvarez through all 12 and one card was a draw
if anything being in Vegas could have helped manny

I am not a Manny fan. I don't have some secret urge to discredit Floyd. I kind of like him as a person, he did it his way.
You should be ashamed of yourself for that comment about the judges. Floyd was the golden goose, everyone in boxing knew that. When he fought, everyone got paid. Again, great fighter, but the way he handled the second half of his career was a bit of a farce. All opponents at home, on his terms. What is really great about that man, what am I missing????

He fought guys at the right time, on his weight terms, in his backyard. What is risky about that?
In my post I said the guy could compete with anyone I could ever think of, at all the weights he fought at. What kind of man would take offense to my comments about him? Are you trying to be his groupie or something?
Name the prime fighters at their (more or less) best weight that Floyd fought on neutral terms. That is how I judge fighters. It is not some special litmus test for Floyd.
So go ahead and name those fighters and maybe when you try to come up with them, you will see why a lot of people have a valid critique of Floyd's career. Leave the little emotional BS out of your posts. If you want to sling some mud I can do that too, and I'll win that debate as well.Last edited by Boxing-1013; 10-27-2021, 10:12 PM.

To be honest man you'd have to be kind of an idiot to think that Floyd was really taking risks the second half of his career. Do you really think that?

you want go with me don't ask me to go around the same BS that's been done a 1000 times.
You tell me when was Floyds prime lets start there, then we can look at the opponents fights before and after Floyd, we can compare weights with other guys who apparently took a risk, you see that's the objective way to look at it, you must compare timing of fights weight of fights and previous form,,, ready set go start the ball rolling.
Im nearly 70 and followed boxing for over 50 rs Im no fanboy I can beat you to death with facts and figures.
