Would them having fought five years earlier have resulted in a different result in a single fight, rematch or trilogy? Who knows? It's hypothetical or opinion.
Also it's worth considering that there may be just as many people think Mayweather would have won a rematch or trilogy. Again, doesn't make it so.
Thinking doesn't change doing.
