floyd-jmm should have been at 140.
floyd is a small WW and so he doesn't engage legit and live welters.
but floyd is a ***** who wants all the advantages he can get "because jmm called him out"...floyd's reason.

      GREAT Article!!

He just persuaded me to think otherwise about catch weights. If pacquiao wants to be the greatest like armstrong and robinson he should come into fight night ready to face Cotto or Mosley at thier limit

i dont see why it cant be a legit ww fight in th first place. ww division is 141-147. wts if pac come n at 143 & cotto come in at 146 it still a ww fight. so what the point of a catchweight?

That point is, Cotto would be most unlikely to blow-up to 160 at fight night, if he weighs 144 the night before.

Agree in the sense that Pacquiao's already an ATG & has the opportunity to be immortalized along side w/ the immortals once he beats Cotto as champion in his best weight of 147lbs...It's a matter of history in the making to overtake the record of Oscar as champion in 6 different division & the first to make it seven...A competitive loss of Pacquiao never degrades his greatness but rather gets the respect of the boxing world...One way or another, he will still remains as a P4P King simply because it's not his natural weight & everybody will praise his courageous act to take the risk of size advantage & fight the best there could be...

Disagree in the sense that today Pacquiao is the draw, why most of the people here including the respective writer of this article needs to put the weight load or blame to Pacquiao or his team of whatever weight issue arises or talked about...Remember Pacquiao is the smaller in size/built & it's a big risk ahead of him to consider fighting the best at 147 but i still believe a 50/50 chance...Since most of them (fighters) wants a piece of him as a sure mega money fight, he is the draw & in the position as P4P King to deny or to consider all the options being laid upon him...I respect & leave the decision to him(Pacquiao) whether he is in the right way to consider immortalization or still stay at his natural/comfortable weight or push for a catch weight or just wait for the right time to take the risk at 147 & be immortalize if he's successful...

Though a fight at any weight level is a sure mega fight & what fans really can't wait to see... I go for him to take the risk at 147, a competitive loss will rewards him respect, honor & money, a win rewards him all of the above & immortalization...
            cosign to your arguments.
i hope manny will consider everything when he finally decides to fyt cotto.
his legacy and legitimacy as p4p#1 is served better if he fyts at 147.
but then he has to consider his own health.
cotto will enter the ring at 158 at least to pac's 148, where manny is most effective.
cotto myt look very beatable because clottey offered a good challencge and because of the cut that clearly bothered cotto.

Why should pacquiao go up so much? why shouldn't these people come down a little? i think a catch weight between the two weights seems fair and would be most competitive

I agree, however, I think that should require same day weigh ins. The 10-20lb variance between weigh ins and fight night is rediculous. If someone can regain 15lbs of water in less than 24 hours, they should not be in a lower weight class.

Pac vs Cotto @ 147 SAME DAY weigh ins.

Catch weights are a result of too much time between weigh ins and fights. With modern tech/medicine someone can easily rehydrate 10-15lbs of water in < 24 hours and not suffer significant adverse affects.

How long has it been since boxers fought at their weight class's limits?!?

That's true. He's not a Welterweight. But there's fighters at 140 that he can defend his title against. There's Victor Ortiz, Nate Campell, Devon Alexander, and Mike Alvarado. 140 is a deep division and Pacquaio has got a big talent pool to chose from there. Pacquiao should give something back to the fans and fight on regular HBO and not PPV. I understand he only wants megafights because he only has so much time left in his career, but great fighters make title defenses, and this is something that Pacquiao seems allergic to.
