De La Hoya took the perceived "easy' route in picking on a much smaller fighter in Pacquiao. That was weaksauce in my opinion, and he got what he deserved. He was a fool for trying to return to a weight he hadn't made in a decade in order to achieve a default victory over a smaller but great fighter in Pacquiao. There's a term for that: Hubris. Look it up.
Roach only took the fight because he trained DLH and KNEW he would be a zombie at the weight. What's next? Is Michael Jordan badass for stomping a Junior Varsity Basketball team all by himself? Why wouldn't he? He has every conceivable advantage! If you define your heroes by how many "advantages" they have to concede in order to even face them in the ring, then I don't know what to tell you other than that's weak and laughable because it is!
Rex “Wakee” Salud, One of Manny Pacquiao’s advisers, says the Filipino fighter should not agree to meet Shane Mosley at a catch-weight of 144-pounds. At 144, Salud says Pacquiao would be at a very big disadvantage. He says the fight should take place at 142 or 143 at most. [details]
Wow, so let me attempt to understand this..."we're only interested in Mosley if he comes into the fight at less than his best, weight drained. But we accepted the terms to fight De La Hoya, again because we knew he was weight drained and the fight would again be easier.
We're not interested in competitive matchups just adding names to our resume, no matter that they came in at less than their best, because it bolsters our claim as being the best fighter in the world".

Saluds' comments are incredibly telling.
1) roach said the dlh fight at 147 was a ONE time deal
2) pac officially weighed 138 lbs against hatton just a few weeks ago. when was the last time cotto/mosley/pbf officially weighed 138 lbs???
3) roach never intended for pac to campaign at WW
4) unless cotto/mosley/pbf agrees to 142, this fight shouldn't even be discussed. Get down to 142 lbs or GTFO and fight mosley
5) Cotto/mosley is a MW on fight night and Pac is a WW on fight night. IS THAT FAIR???
6) pac officially weighed 142 lbs against dlh. when was the last time cotto/mosley/pbf officially weighed 142 lbs???

For good reason because he knew how coming down in weight would effect Oscar's performance. This was a choice Oscar made so I don't begrudge Roach/Pac for taking the fight, not withstanding they still knew it would put Oscar at a disadvantage.
2) pac officially weighed 138 lbs against hatton just a few weeks ago. when was the last time cotto/mosley/pbf officially weighed 138 lbs??? He was fighting a natural jr welterweight, what does that have to do with any of the fighters you've mentioned? Pac walks around at 150lbs so let's connect the dots here.
3) roach never intended for pac to campaign at WW Obviously, again what does this have to do with fighting at 144, it's a catch weight right?
4) unless cotto/mosley/pbf agrees to 142, this fight shouldn't even be discussed. Get down to 142 lbs or GTFO and fight mosley Opinions are like.....
5) Cotto/mosley is a MW on fight night and Pac is a WW on fight night. IS THAT FAIR??? Drying out and losing muscle mass in order to make weight at the age of 37, is that fair?
6) pac officially weighed 142 lbs against dlh. when was the last time cotto/mosley/pbf officially weighed 142 lbs???
Semantics, on fight night he weighed more
You can skew any point of view to adhere to an opinion, we call that punditry not expertise.
If I'm going to even entertain the idea of Pacquiao being able to compete at welterweight I'm going to have to see him take some tune-ups; as ludicrous as that sounds to some people. Fighting a weight drained, past his prime Oscar and catching a brawler early to KO him at 140 (during the Hatton fight) doesn't tell me a damn thing about how Manny really looks at 147.
I'm not going to argue about in-ring weight, weigh-in weight, what size Manny is when he's jerking off to his KO reel at home- it's all irrelevant to me. Until I've seen him fight a lower level top 10 welterweight, I'm not going to assume the little guy is up to the task. I wouldn't throw him in with Floyd or Cotto or Mosley or almost anyone at 147, and be confident in his ability, before that.

And what do you call it when rules allow and actually force there own breaking , like a 147 contest and fighter weighs 160 in the fight ,,, I call it ***ed !!
aw man, parse that up w/ quotes. I ain't gonna respond to that.
I suspected you wouldn't. I wasn't attacking you, just taking apart the argument. These are all personal POV's, not here to argue back and forth...cheers.
