            The term African-American is not used to describe someone's race. Nor is it used to describe someone's skin colour, that's what the word "black" is for.

                  btw I didn't get to reply to you earlier. Irish Mickey Ward isn't well known at all in Ireland, it's Irish-Americans who like him. He'd be known as a plastic paddy in Ireland (if they ever took any notice of him. Barry McGuigan was a popular genuine Irish fighter who they took to their hearts.
