Lyell simply outworked the sluggish Duddy to prevail 96-94, 98-92 on two cards. Duddy prevailed on the third card 97-93.

Best name and most competitive on his record was Howard Eastman, famous for losing to Hopkins 3 years previous to fighting Duddy. And that was a close fight.
