And claiming to be the best Welterweight in the world without ever defending against a single Welterweight contender just makes him look like an empty braggart to anyone who isn't a committed fan.
you make sense, but floyd has wanted to fight shane for years now.....shane never accepted. now that shane is clearly looking for the biggest money fights he can get, not necessarily the best competition, mayweather is OBLIGATED to fight him?

the way i look at it, floyd has other options, for more money than he'd make off shane now, coupled with the fact shane ducked him for so long, added to the realization that shane is now old and past his prime, what would be in it for mayweather? the same ppl calling for mayweather to fight mosley, will be the same ones, saying shane "was old anyway," if mayweather wins. it's really a no-win situation for floyd when you think about it. IMO, he really should just stay retired, unless he really misses the sport, or really needs the money, b/c it seems the popular opinion around here, is that the only CREDIBLE opponent he can fight, is miguel cotto.

I want to see Floyd and Shane get it on too but IF/WHEN that fight
happens, Floyd will shut Shane down.

I agree, because before the Antonio Margarito fight MANY weren't
giving Shane a chance & I have to admit that I was a lil skeptical
too after seeing his performance against Mayorga. Once Floyd beats
Shane down people still won't give Floyd credit for the win & that
          I am sure of.

He will please all fair minded boxing fans if he comes back and fights at least one top Welterweight. He'll please them even more if he fights two or three top Welters.

All fair minded fans recognise his talents, and his achievements up to 135. Apart from Floyd fans, though, most boxing fans think he hasn't achieved that much since then. And they're sick of hearing about the people he would have beaten if he'd fought them. It's six years since he's fought anyone who was clearly the best in the division.

Don't get me wrong, he's fought very well in his subsequent fights and showed great skills, and deserved his P4P #1 status; but apart from Floyd fans, most boxing fans don't think his level of competition was what it should have been in the last 6 years, especially at Welterweight.

No, you're mixing up fans with haters. Fans want to see him take genuine risks and to challenge himself, that's what all great fighters do; but if he takes genuine risks and wins, they'll give him props for that. Fighting Marquez and even Pac at 147 isn't seen by most boxing fans as a genuine risk (140 would be a different story). Plus real champions defend their titles. He won a lineal championship in 2006 and still hasn't defended it once (apart from against a fighter from a lower weight class), and no fighter would get away with that without their credibility being badly damaged.

People keep quoting a single interview in which a few Welterweight boxers said it was 50/50 - and none gave Floyd no chance - but the fact is that almost every boxing expert at the time predicted Floyd would be much too fast for Boldomir. 12 staff writers were asked their opinions, all 12 predicted Floyd would win, and 7 said it would be a very easy win for him. All that other article you keep quoting shows is that boxers are mostly not boxing experts.

Plus the main reason Baldomir is now considered a journeyman is not just because of the way he was beaten by Floyd but because he's looked like a journeyman in every subsequent fight - and because he has 12 losses.

He just got lucky in catching Judah on a bad night and in fighting a shot Gatti above Gatti's weight class.

No neutral boxing fan believes that either Judah or Boldomir at that time even compared at Welterweight with any of the top 4 Welterweights today.

No one is obligated in any personal sense to fight anyone, but boxing fans want to see him fight the best Welterweights, because he won the lineal title and hasn't defended it against a single meaningful opponent.

At the moment Mosley is ranked #1 at Welterweight and #5 P4P, so if he's only going to have one fight, fighting the best means fighting Mosley. Nothing to do with obligation, just to do with daring to be great. He'd get a lot of kudos from all genuine boxing fans if he fought Mosley, despite what you say. He'd get a lot of props if he fought Cotto, too. And he'd get absolutely massive props if he fought Williams. If he fought and beat all three, then there would be very few, and probably no, haters left.

He turned him down in order to move up two divisions and fight the #1 P4P fighter at the time. You and he shouldn't take things so personally. It wasn't personal, and no one except really committed Floyd fans would say that he ducked Floyd or that he wasn't willing to fight the best. Moving up two divisions to fight DLH was a huge risk and a huge challenge.

All boxing fans want now is that if he comes back, he comes back to fight the best. If he doesn't want to fight the best, they would rather he just stayed retired.

                    GENUINE boxing fans, i agree......

mosley IS ranked #1 via his win over margarito, but i htink the overwhelming # of ppl would give him more credit for beating cotto. my opinion, is that, if he's only gonna fight one, he should fight williams (although both are my guys), for the simple fact shane and cotto WON'T.....

He'd certainly get massive props if he did that from all genuine boxing fans. Massive props.
