There's a big difference from Pacquiao moving from 135 to 147 than JMM move up from 135 to 147.

Pacman moved up to 147 and he still could rely on his speed to punish and also avoid punishment from an old and slow De La Hoya i think even JMM could beat De La Hoya at this stage.

JMM who is not known for his speed, has been knocked down several times in lower weights, takes hits, will probably move up to 147 to face one of the fastest and defensive guy in the sport in PBF and will receive pounding for the 1st time from a legit 147 welter weight so it would be unfair to compare what Pacman did facing De La Hoya and expect the same from JMM against PBF.

Even pacman is still to be proved that he can take heavy hitting from a legit, qiuck and strong welter weight like Cotto, Mosley or Floyd.

Pacquiao is great for the sport of boxing and deservely so he is the unanimous best PFP out there but i don't think he can dominate the welter weight division, however you have to admire his will to fight everybody and anybody in any weight class, To bad we can't say the same thing about Mayweather.

If you're a natural 140 pounder that means that you can make 140 pounds at the weigh in the day before the fight; it has nothing to do with your weight in the fight itself, under the current rules of boxing.

If his most effective weight under the rules of boxing (meaning the weight at the weigh in) is 140lb as most of his fans claim it is, why would he want to fight another 140 pounder at catchweight?

Why would Pacman fight Oscar at 147,yet not PBF. What difference would 147 make. Nothing really.

I agree Pac-PBF should be at 140. But I also don't mind seeing it at 147. Since they are the same size

It's not just that. Some boxers have a frame and body type that allows them to move up in weight without losing power or speed, and some don't. JMM already looks small at Lightweight, he's beating bigger and stronger fighters at that weight due to his outstanding skills. Pac has a different type of frame, which seems to allow him to put on more weight without losing so much of his speed or power, relatively speaking. I think Pac's highest peak weight is probably 140lb (provided he can beat Hatton, because the DLH fight didn't really test him); whereas JMM's highest peak weight is probably 135lb.

Plus Pac has already fought once above 135lb, and is about to do so for a second time. If he beats Hatton, he'll be considered a legitimate 140 pounder. JMM has done nothing so far to be considered a legitimate contender above 135lb.

That was the lowest weight Oscar was willing to come down to.

Measurements have nothing to do with it. Morales was 5'8" and his peak weight was super bantamweight.

Also, minor quibble, but Manny is 5′ 6½″.

Measurements have everything to do with it.

People use peak weight as a excuse for their fighters. I prime Morales would have done well at 135. He was past it by the time he fought there.

Pacman at 147 looked at his peak didn't he
