Hopkins frequently wins ugly, and in many of his fights he not only hit and held, but more illegally, he hit, on the referee's blind side, while holding. And in the Holmes fight, he threw more low blows than I've ever seen in any other single fight. But he gets a lot less criticism for his dirty tactics than Hatton does.

Duran won extremely ugly in many of his fights, especially again Buchanan, but was praised for his "intense ferocity". Duran bored in with his head against Buchanan, wrestled, repeatedly hit on the break, and ended the fight with a low blow in the groin that sent Buchanan to hospital, yet is rarely criticised.

Tszyu throw Sharmba Mitchell around the ring in their first fight and hurt Santos repeatedly with illegal rabbit punches - yet everyone felt sorry for him and criticised the referee when Hatton out-rough-housed the rough-houser.

Marciano used to bore in with his head and head butt his opponents, but is rarely criticised for his rough-house tactics the way Hatton is.

Mosley hit and held a great deal against Margarito, but I didn't see any criticism of him after that fight.

Mayweather used his elbows illegally a great deal against Hatton, but few people criticised him for it.

    Definitely double standards, IMO.
This is an excellant post and I would like one of the ''Hatton is just a wrestler'' brigade to actually answer it............

I just hated how he never gave the fans what they wanted and didn't fight JR Witter back then. Please don't put JMM or Rafa Marquez in the same category as Ricky Hatton.

I'm not convinced that many fans wanted it back then. If Witter hadn't lost to Bradley, it might have happened, because the Bradley fight was on free terrestrial TV and had a huge audience - he just needed to beat some world class fighters impressively. The two times he had a real chance to make waves, against Judah and Bradley, he blew it.

I didn't say the Marquez's were in the same category as Hatton, I made the point that any fighter who puts up a competitive fight against the P4P king deserves a lot of respect; and that you can lose a fight and still gain respect.

Dont you mean 3 losses with the fight Hatton stole from Collazo a few years ago? He lost against Collazo, he lost against Floyd, and he will lose against Pacquiao too. But don't worry, he is still one of the best british fighters out there.

i think another point about hatton's lack of respect is he did take such an ugly loss to mayweather, and in america that was the first time a lot of fans saw hatton, outside of the collazo fight....i just think physically ricky might not be the same guy when he fought kosta tzyu, but i think his ring intelligence is better since the mayweather fight

do he outboxed collazo, knocked him down within the first minute and took his belt...i take the pepsi challenge with anybody to say ricky won that fight

none of those boxers you named do that
That round wasn't typical of him, he hits and holds a lot but not normally anywhere near that much (and under Floyd Snr, I believe he'll do it less than before anyway). Judging him on that one round is like judging Hopkins solely on the round where he put Holmes down with low blows, or Duran solely on the round where he did the same to Buchanan.

Knocking out your hero is how you describe hiding balls under a rock. Mayweather moved up 5 weight classes your hero got run out of 147 by Luis Collazo.

Are you willing to take the Pepsi Challenge to say Ricky will beat Pac? And anyways, Collazo did have a bad start, but in the end I did see him taking a lead(not a comfortable one) later on that fight. Plus, Pac KD's Marquez three times in the first round and the fight was still a draw, so a 1st round KD doesn't guarantee a victory to anyone.
