Clottey doesn't necessarily have this mega power that some say he has. He uses his defense and depends heavily on countering (which he's good at). But people talk about him pressuring Cotto or taking Marg's game plan and implementing that, but in reality Clottey doesn't fight that way. He does have to corner Cotto and use some type of pressure, but anyone who's seen Clottey fights knows he's not necessarily a balls to the wall 12 round fighter.

Cotto wins. You gotta put heavy pressure on Cotto to beat him, but Clottey doesn't and won't fight that way...and I'm a fan of Clottey's.
Great post!! You stated wha I have ben saying from the begining. Clottey has 1 KO past round 6 and that came in like 2001 I believe. 14/20 KOs in Clottey career came in his first 20 fights, and has since gone 6/18 the rest of the way. He has 1 KO leading all the way back to 2004. If Clottey comes into this fight aiming for a KO it will be his undoing as he'll be coming out of his defensive counterpunch strategy that he does well. Cotto will probably welcome Clottey especially if he feels that Clottey can't hurt him after the first say half of the fight. I got Cotto by decision on this one.

Should be a good one, gotta take Clottey on in this one. very accurate with his punches. Cotto still doesnt have good defense or a chin in my eyes, think I'll go Clottey in a KO. no way in hell Cotto KO Clottey.

Thats the best way to fight Cotto.

I still got Cotto taking a decision though.

            make Miguel too confident.

For instance when he fought Gomez he had the most confident look on his face in the ring but when he was in with Margarito he had no answer to the pressure and the fact that he couldn't hurt Margarito. Clottey is not known for getting hurt in the ring with exception to damaging his hands. Clottey has the defensive style, chin and power that can turn out to be a problem for Cotto especially if Clottey brings it to him.

By Clottey saying he was going to take the fight to Cotto that just goes to show that he watched the Margarito fight and saw pressure is Cotto's downfall. That's why I didn't feel like fighting Gomez before Margarito was a good idea and coming back to fight Jennings. In Cotto's defense if Clottey tries to stand and exchange with Cotto then it will give Cotto more time to plan his body attack.
If Clottey lets Cotto sit on his punches & time them then Clottey will lose.
i agree wit u on most of this post, great post, very true, specially the 2 weak opponents they put agains Cotto before the big fight, right after the Gomez fight I already knew this was bad because Gomez was nobody and Cotto switched up his style, he was 2 fast and got tired 2 quick. I hope he did learn from his mistakes though, he came back on his gameplan from before vs Jennings but then again, Jennings seemed weak n scared, thats my fear... though Clottey gets tired quick after he throws his bombs n leave his body open @ times which is a real bad thing, but again, this was a great post, i saw what you saw, same point of view. Good ups for this post. Honestly and well put.

Do you guys know the story of Hannibal and the promise he made his dying
father to conquer Rome and burn it down to the ground? Hannibal was a powerful, dangerous man, his army killed over 70,000 soldiers in like 7 hours. He had Rome on the ropes because of his fierce nature and warrior instincts but for all that power he had, he NEVER could uphold his promise to his father of burning Rome to the ground. He won the battle but didn't win the war. My point being is that in the ring it pays to be a strategic, technician to out think your opponent when he can possibly over power you and that's what Rome did to Hannibal.

That's the thing that makes Floyd Mayweather Jr different from the rest of these guys because he uses his head to win in any situation. Doesn't matter if he is not as strong as his opponent or as big the point is he is smarter than them and that's what wins fights, Strategy and being ahead of your opposition in the ring. People tend to think it is power but they are wrong.

Miguel Cotto had all the power and skill advantage over Antonio Margarito but couldn't beat him because he didn't have the smarts to out think Margarito and that's why Margarito's power and aggression *****ed Cotto's. There is NO way on in HELL that I would believe that someone as gifted as PBF who fought and beat a bigger De La Hoya, who is/was a better fighter than Margarito was/is scared of someone as limited and predictable as Antonio Margarito.

Any fighter with above average boxing skill & can adapt to pressure and box can whip Margarito and we witnessed it twice from Williams and Mosley. You guys need to stop throwing around that Floyd ducked these guys because clearly that is false. Cotto wasn't ready at 140, Mosley ducked him Twice, Margarito was/is overrated that had nothing to offer the P4P best. If I could see someone out there that could beat Floyd I would say it but I don't see them so
I have to keep speaking the truth. Cotto NO WAY, he NEVER called out PBF.

This is why Cotto is the man. He's willing to fight the best. He never has excuses and he always gives a great effort in all of his exciting fights. Clottey is going to be a great challenge!

I got Cotto by UD. I think there is a slight possibility of him stopping Clottey late but it's slim considering Clottey's excellent chin and tight defense. This will be a tough fight.
