Those were joke posts. they weren't meant to be taken seriously! Jennings was rated #50 by boxrec going into the fight. Everyone knew he was a journeyman.

No it's based on how they perform at their weight class. See the examples I gave of Foster, Hagler and Hopkins, and of Hatton being ranked #8 currently.

: "Pound-for-pound is the term used in boxing, mixed martial arts and other combat sports to describe a fighter's value in relation to fighters of different weight classes." No mention of "around their weight class" or of moving up in weight. It's just value (how elite they are at their weight) divided by the number of pounds.

I see you cut the rest, about resizing - you agree then. Good because your onto a loser there.

Yes their weight class, but as most boxers move weight class, it's usually based on how they perform around their weight.

You are right though a boxer can still very much (no more, no less) be a p4p boxer even if they don't move any weight class during there entire career.

Or even if they do move up and are not so good at higher weights, as was the case with Bob Foster and is the case with Hatton.

It's just their value (how elite they are) at their peak weight, divided by the number of pounds.

Whether you can move up or not is simply based on the type of frame and body type you have. Whether you are rated in the P4P lists is simply based on imagining what would happen if all the fighters could be magically resized and if their power relative to their weight was resized with them, then who would beat whom. Totally different things. Bob Foster is rated by The Ring as the 17th most devastating P4P puncher of all time, yet all five heavyweights he fought beat him easily. Hagler was P4P #1 at one time, and is rated by many in the top 100 P4P fighters of all time, yet he only ever fought at one weight.
Look Man I get what you are coming from but.....

if you are going to claim #1 pound for pound I dont care who you are you need to be able to fight 1 division up. If you cant do that there is no way you are #1 p4p. #8 maybe but not #1.

As it is Hatton can claim #1 at 140 all day everyday he likes.

No ones asking him to jump up to 160.

I dont see how Bob Fosters p4p punching has anything to do with this. A hard punch doesnt mean you are a great fighter.

As far as Hagler...everyone knows he retired early ater the SRL fight, so its open to speculation if he would have moved up or not eventually.

People keep going on about how Hatton can't move to 147, Knocking him. Well Cotto can't move anywhere either. He can't make 140 anymore and he cant fight above 147.

Hatton is a 140 fighter, simple as that.

Because the point is that P4P punching power does not mean ability to take punching power with you if you move up in weight. He lost his punching power when he moved up in weight, but when The Ring compiled their ATG P4P list of punchers, they only considered his punching power at his peak weight. His much reduced relative punching power when he moved up in weight didn't count against him in that P4P list.
