I have read a lot of replies to this thread an the mayority pic Cotto and I'm one of them but the excuse of the size advantage needs to go away.
If you look at the tale of the tape of both boxers Cotto has only a 1/2" height advantage (5' 7" vs 5'6-1/2") In reach they are tied at 67".
Cotto's average weight for fight night is 153 lbs and remember that Paqcuiao for the De La Hoya fight went up to 154 lbs the night at the fight.
Chest normal -Cotto 39" Pacquiao 38"
        Chest expanded - Cotto 41" Pacquiao 40-1/2"
These numbers don't seem like an big advantage for Cotto.

In terms of power I also beleive that Cotto has more punching power, but then again, nobody had put De La Hoya's face as Pacquiao did. And remember that this guy (De La Hoya) has fought against guys at 160 lbs (Hopkins and Sturm) and even though his face was punished by Sturm, it never looked like the night he fought Pacquiao so that tells me that he has power at 147. It always depends on the conditioning and how he gain thee weight when he moved up thru the divisions.

Having said that I'll still pick Cotto over Pac but the fight make more sense to Pac at this stage than to Cotto and this is why.

Pacquiao is willing to retire in 2010 and the best money making fight out there is Cotto-Pacquiao (Unless Maywether comes back). If he want's to retire with a big payday he cannot let Miguel Cotto get beat by anybody else and he need to get his money segured even if he losses because he'll retire shortly after that any way.

Cotto on the other hand has a lot of oponents at 147 and even at 154 in a year or so that can continue to generate money for him if he continues to win, but if he gets beaten by a so called "smaller" oponent his value will drop a lot.

Anyway the fight will create a lot of hype and for this year and after putting a lot of names together, I beleive it will be the best sold fight out there for the remainder of this year including Pac-Hatoon but probably not more than De La Hoya- Pac. (That's of course if prett boy doesn't come back.

Ey you seem to be off-topic, this is about possible Pac vs. Cotto.

But Pac never ducked JMM. It was actually JMM who ducked Pacman for 4 years after their draw, prefering to fight a less known fighter, Chris John, losing to that fighter at a lesser purse.

However, Pac gave him a chance. He was outright finalizing a deal with David Diaz, when JMM suddenly called him out. Pac gave JMM that chance but he foiled it, failing to convincingly defeat Pacman either. After this fight Pac had to fulfill his earlier commitment against Diaz, who beat Morales, in his search for world titles at 4 weight divisions.

Moving on to further greatness, Pac called out Hatton, who was commited to Malignaggi, then dela Hoya came along. By that time, JMM was already committed to Casamayor, that`s why Pac`s backup fight was Sotto in case dela Hoya fell through. And now its Pac vs Hatton. Pacman actually had no chance to avoid JMM. It was fortuituous. So there may never be a Pac-JMM3, live with it."peeleft:

Going back the topic, I think Pacman is a victim of the so-called crab mentality. Let the crab climb up the basket, he deserves it. He`s only got 2 or 3 fights left before he retires, let him end it with a ****, for his 6th alpha title/class, whichever way it goes.

Pac vs Cotto will be the one of the greatest fights we`ll ever see, aside from Pac- Hatton.

And yes, let him fight Williams/ Forrest for his final fight and 7th alpha title/class before he retires, earning him a record no other boxer may ever surpass in this century.

Only then will you know what a fighter, boxer and warrior is all about.

I dunno where u get these measurements from but no why is cotto 153 lbs on fight night... he's a freakin middleweight. also pac on fight night was 149 lbs only, not 154... that's misinformation.

this is all you need to know to know whether or not cotto is too big for pac: pac can make 140 easily... cotto couldnt make 140 unless you cut off his arm.

LET ME SAY THIS ONE MORE TIME: COTTO IS TOO BIG FOR PAC

no ***** cotto has more power, he's a freaking middleweight on fight night.

Having said that I'll still pick Cotto over Pac but the fight make more sense to Pac at this stage than to Cotto and this is why.

at 147 cotto wins because he's too big. at 140 pac KOs cotto. at a catchweight of 143 its an even fight.

if pac cant get floyd he will rematch jmm or fight valero or campbell and call it a career. It makes no sense for pac to fight a middleweight like cotto.

Cotto on the other hand has a lot of oponents at 147 and even at 154 in a year or so that can continue to generate money for him if he continues to win, but if he gets beaten by a so called "smaller" oponent his value will drop a lot.
its true, cotto has lots of opponents at 147, but he's going to duck mosley in june

honestly i think it's just a ploy by arum to get people to stop talking about how cotto is ducking mosley.

People are making him out to be something he is not. Pac would have problems with people at lightweight, JMM, J. Diaz, Campbell. Then at Jr Welterweight, HATTON, Lamont Peterson, Victor Ortiz, Ricardo Torres. I would put Holt but everyone knows he's got a glass chin, Ivan Calderon could knock him out.
Anyways, I really ain't hating on Pac, it's just that I've watched boxing for over 20 years and in my opinion , Pac is getting better with each fight (skills- wise). But they are hyping him up and all these youngsters, and casual boxing fans are eating that **** up.
You might aswell put him in there with Sam Peter and have him run circles around his ass. But thats not the point!!!!! The point is to be the best at the division, to call yourself the best you have to beat the best!!!

So in review, Pac had a lot of trouble with JMM, and got a contravercial win, this was at super feather weight!!!!! Then beat a ****ty "champ" in D.Diaz at light weight, then pulled a great win over a SHOT ASS LEGEND in the sport. And he is the top dog in the sport?????? WTF!!!!!! Yet everyone is willingly eating that mess up. \

                    Hatton >>> Pac
                    Cotto >>>>>>>Pac, **** even

Morales last good fight was spent on pac..... He was already done (well-done)!!!! He had already had a great problem making weight, remember all the **** he had to go through to fight Pac again?
He did kick Barerras ass legitamitly, Besides that he never really Beat JMM, and anyone who knows boxing will say that, that whole Officially he won **** don't mean anything, cuz officially chavez beat taylor, chavez vs whitaker was a draw, DLH vs tito was for tito, DLH vs SSM 2 was for ssm, Cotto lost to marg with plastered wraps, there is a laundery list of bull**** wins !!!!!!
Just because it was the official result doesn't mean thats the way it happened.

                      OK. This proves everything!!!

I don't have to say anything than YOU JUST LOVE YOUR SKIN TO PROVE YOU'RE BETTER BUT IN FACT "YOU'RE JUST A ****".
