If you come from an environmental were injustice and poverty is kind of normal you might like the blues or certain types of rap music.

If you come from an environmental were it is a tradition to hunt and you like people to say out of your business you might be more attracted to country music.

If you come from an environment in which you have a chill lifestyle and your parents always have you evolved in ****. You are more than likely to like chill music such as indie rock and neo soul.

So It quite funny when people associate genres of musics to people rather than environmental and culture
Good ****. I'm really enjoying these conversations I'm having with you and Burner tonight.

It is true that certain race does coincide with environment though... all these sociology classes that I'm grudgingly taking this semester have been ramming statistics down our throats about how there are more blacks in poverty than whites, so... it's logical that more blacks would rap about the struggle of the streets, because there are more of them in that kind of environment, and a black impoverished environment looks different than a white impoverished environment.

I think there are restrictions on who can make the music, because you are lying if you say that you can make music about anything... no one is that well versed in every type of experience that can be had. For instance, a suburban white kid like me would have a hard time justifying myself if I was rapping about the struggle of being poor and having to come up on the streets.

But I think anyone can enjoy any type of music. I love my Lupe Fiasco CDs to death, because I like what he talks about (whether it be the struggle, or his commentary on things), and I think his music is phonetically pleasing as well.

Horus, come to Wichita, KS and teach my sociology classes... this is 1,000,000 times more fun than talking about this same type of **** in my actual classes.

Floyd has the power and position to change that and I say its a damn shame that instead of changing it he plays right into it.
        what race are you?

It is funny because I am going back to school to get a degree in sociology.
i took a couple of class when i was in college. and it always interested me.
and now that i am in business, i think a advance knowledge in sociology would help tremendously in my future

It is so true that more middle class people of all races like lyrical hip hop and more activist kind of music because it relates to them.Think about Lupe's fan base. Who do you think it is made of????

It is the same kind of people who like open house poetry.
It is the same kind of people who want to change the world and ****. lol
It is also the same kind of kids who smoke pot and call themselves
          stoners and HIPSTERS

and it is the same kind of people you usually see at demonstrations

For example I love alot of indie rock music and neo-soul because my lifestyle is pretty chill and i can relate to that kind of music.
and sure enough my favorite rap artist are Lupe, Kanye, and Kid Cudi right now..

And my favorite indie rock group is a group called
Pinback, and i like listening to Coldplay and Gnarls Barkely

so to me it is more about your culture and environmental moreso then your race...

          for example:
Who do you think would relate more to rap music because of their environment

a poor white kid living in compton

          or

a rich black kid living in Manhattan

You my friend are certainly correct. The position that Floyd is in, he can change alot of the stereotype surrounding african-american males or african-americans in general. I understand that it is the "cool" thing in our society at the moment but its not healthy to keep projecting the "make it rain" persona to the youth.

Seriously. Most people think "im gonna act like Lil Wayne and get somewhere". Yeah the **** looks cool in high school but when you get to the real world, you will see that you will go nowhere fast. Unless of course you are in the rap game where you have alot of money anyways. But still, most of them go through hell to get there. Some even die, look at Big L.

If you ever decide that money isn't really at the top of your priority list, you might want to think about getting a grad/PhD degree in sociology and teaching it at the University level... I can't imagine that you wouldn't enjoy it, especially if you taught upper level classes.

My professor (female) is definitely afraid to tell anyone they are wrong, and loves the gender aspect of it, which is definitely not my cup of tea.

By the way... Kanye West is a complete *******. I used to love him, but him saying **** like, "My biggest regret in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live." absolutely disgusts me. I mean, really Kanye... you were really good when you came out, but you are not a lyrical genius, and your albums have been dropping quality in giant strides with each new release. Get the **** over yourself.

I just generally am a music enthusiast... as a matter of fact, my last four songs I listened to in the past 10 minutes have no pattern at all:

                Aaliyah - Back & Forth
Paramore - That's What You Get
Lil' Wayne & Birdman - Stuntin' Like My Daddy
                Lifehouse - First Time

To hell with the people who will have you believe they are all-knowing enough to order people into categories of what they believe each person should like. It's ridiculous.

EDIT: To answer your bottom question in your edited post, it is obviously the white kid in Compton who has more relation to that kind of struggle. But on the opposite side, a random kid from there is more likely to be black than white... it's a shame that it's true that blacks find themselves in poverty more often than whites, but... it's definitely a sign that there is still much more work to do to clean up society as a whole.

                    good answer.
but there is technically no such thing as race.

but what ethic group do you fall under?

There is, it's just socially constructed.
