Cotto was 7 minutes away from being the face of boxing

7 minutes!!! If he kept boxing Margarito he would have won that fight, then move on to De La Hoya. Instead of Manny showing the world his skills in destroying DLH it could of been Cotto. Now even if Cotto beats Marg and then he kills DLH he would not get credit. People will say Manny did it first. Cotto was so close and he would of been a better face of boxing imo. He's younger than Manny and Manny has already indicated that his career is over soon.

I had Cotto winning by 1 round up until the stoppage.
He came very close to winning.
I'm not so sure he can win a rematch. It all depends on how he recovers.

Yes, only because Margarito stole the 10th round with a barrage of punches late. Cotto was winning the 10th round till that very last minute. He keeps it up he wins the 10th and is up 6-4 in the fight.

It was Cotto fault falling into his whole hype. Example before the fight he was like it going to be a war and so on. He was never going to KO Margarito who is a HUGE WW. If he sticked to boxing Margarito he would have won

Yeah he never had to fight backing up in his career, he was used to being the bully and when someone was bigger then him and kept coming he took a knee. I wonder how hurt Cotto really was because he was never knocked down, or demoralized that all his efforts to stop Margarito were fruitless.

I think Cotto was running out of gas though, that is why he stopped Boxing imo. The body shots slowed him right down. I remember the Diaz v Campbell,Marquez v Vasquez 3 fights and the body shots caught up with both Marquez and Diaz. In the last 3 rounds of the Marquez v Vasquez fight Marquez threw very little he visibly slowed down.

Let's face it. Margarito would have won those last two rounds by doing what he does best... literally jogging over to the retreating Cotto and pounding away at any exposed skin on the head or torso of Cotto. I know Cotto out punched him eary but Margarito would have deserved to win the decision. He would have left Cotto bloodied, broken and humiliated if Cotto had continued to try and box for those last few minutes. Cotto winning a decision would have looked ridiculous in his state.

The thing is Cotto is not bad when on the backfoot. Cotto is a good counter puncher, but he does get hit more when backed up that is the main problem with him his defence is leaky when on the backfoot. Cotto got hit too much against Mosley when he started backing up.
