And it's not like hes always bob and weaving or putting his hands up all the time while he's comming forward. Anybody can throw punches from all angles if they can take missles to the face while there doing it. His conditioning i don't consider a boxing ablity just a asset. He's just in great shape. Like i said before, he can only throw so many punches cause he can takes constant punishment to the face and not be fazzed by it. I do think Tony is just some caveman with a club. Margarito in no way out-classed Cotto, he just out-willed him, just took punishment and gave it back twice as hard, in no way was Cotto made into a fool. He didn't jab, move, made Cotto miss punches badly [that's out-classing a guy]. I'm not taking anything away from Margarito at all - he won fair and square and beat Cotto, but if it wasn't for that CHIN, he's not even THOUGHT of right now. But for his sake, he does, so yep.
Thank you! This is what i've been trying to say.

All that is true, but pointless.

Why ask where Floyd would be without his reflexes, where Paquiao would be without his power. It's totally useless, because they do have the god given ability. So why? Chin is no different than reflexes, or punching power, or speed.

to be honest, as a fighter - if i would take a knee I would rather take a knee againest a skilled fighter who speed, and/or power overwhelmed me and beat me to my game. I would hate to lose to someone who took my heavy punches all these rounds and hadn't stop comming at me. that **** seems frustrating..

At the world class level you work with what you were born with and try to hone natural skills to maximum efficiency. Blazing handspeed, footspeed, one punch knockout power, razor sharp reflexes and a solid chin are all inborn talents. You could definitely improve what you have by proper training but once you step into the world class level you'll quickly find out whether you possess natural talent in any of those areas are not.

Margarito is not simply chin, he's about excellent conditioning, unmatched mental toughness, good power and ability to commit to volumes of punches all the while stalking and cornering faster, more elusive opponents. He forces rivals to fight his fight and when that happens it's game over.

He'd probably be dead... with the bombs Cintron and Cotto landed on him back to back, I can't imagine his body would not just give up on life if he was not able to take those punches.

yeah, but most of those guys have pretty good boxing ability, money marg also has boxing ability but he eats 10 shots to land 1 and that isn't the best display of boxing ability imho.

Yeah, i forgot that Cintron hit him with some pretty big bombs as well. As one HBO announcer said during the Cotto/Marg fight. "its pretty discouraging when you hit your opponent with everything u have, and he's still right there in your face"

"No, Margarito just goes in there with his head down and wails away like a local street goon.

Dude has absolutely no skill at all.

Never mind that hes been boxing since he was a kid, hes just a guy with a steel chin who throws nothing but wild punches.

Margarito doesn't apply any technical aspects to his game plan at all."

At least thats what Thadrow wants you to believe.

IF Margarito wasn't blessed with his ability to take punches, I'm pretty sure he'd either be a lot faster with his hands, or better defensively.

However, he was blessed with a great chin and utilizes his talents knowing he can take a great shot. Does he always get out of the way? No, but he doesn't just stand there the way Mayorga did against Tito either. Look at how many early punches he picked off with his gloves in the Williams fight? Not a high number of those punches landed. They were evaded and picked off for the most part. Cotto caught Tony more but in no way was Margarito just standing there waiting to be hit.

I'm just wondering how Cotto got so busted up if Margarito has no skill?

                  Chins don't punch.

i think its common sense for the world that when you box, you might want to try to take less hits to the heads as possible to not risk future injury. and just wondering, what makes you think without his chin , hed be better defense-wise and with faster hands? if he has the ability todo that, why not be smart and use that then use your chin as last resort? Cotto got tired , he was hitting a brickwall that didnt budge and fired back, why? his chin - not skill.

chins dont punch - but its the only reason Marg is where hes at in the game.

The question besides being ******ed was merely hypothetical. El Gallo there just replaced his granite chin with some other ability to even things up. If you started chopping away all his natural attributes you won't be left with much so the question was pointless to begin with. It's like saying what would Tony be with half the stamina and 4 inches less height and the mental toughness of Judah/Cintron? Obviously what you would get is something that is no longer MARGARITO. Margarito is who he is because he has all those unique attributes just like any other great boxer in history.

If Mayweather was just a fraction slower in handspeed and reflexes he probably would have been knocked out half a dozen times by now and the same goes for RJJ.
