Believe me, I'm no Margarito nuthugger by any stretch, I've actually been criticized whenever I call it as I see it as a detractor (nowadays, if you say anything that isn't laudatory of someone, you're picking on them).

That said, you don't fall over by yourself. Your face does not spontaneously combust, it needs a spark, an ignition.

    Margarito's fists were that ignition.

Margarito throws punches from all angles, he has the long right hand, the left hooks, the uppercuts with both hands and some great body work. You need to give him some credit here.

I think his chin is enhanced by his ability to roll away from punches as well. It looks like he's getting hit clean but a lot of shots he loosens up and moves just a little to take some of the steam off of them.

It also doesn't hurt to be fighting people who are considerably smaller than himself. Margarito is closer to being a middleweight than a welterweight and when he's ventured north of 147, he's run into some opposition.

Williams was also a big welterweight who was able to thwart him. A smaller welterweight like Cotto or Mayweather wouldn't be able to deal with his strength and work rate.
are you referring to the Cotto fight? if you are please let me know so i can proceed to laugh my fucking ass off

So would u say that Marg would be better suited for toughman contest, rather than boxing?

Seriously! LOL. Marg took FLUSH shots/combos to the head over and over again. Even the HBO crew kept pointing that out. I was amazed at how well he took those shots!

and like devel said, Cotto outclassed him for the 1st 6 or 7 rounds, he made him look an absolute fool at times
Just so I know what perspective you're coming from, would you classify yourself as a Cotto fan? Not that it detracts from your opinion because your opinion is as valid as anyone else's here.

Margarito doesn't have "one punch knockout power", but tell me who does at the elite level? Pacquiao is considered a big puncher but he hasn't knocked anyone out with one punch since Emmanuel Lucero, and a lot of people knock him out with one punch.

Margarito has a very good offensive arsenal, throws from different angles with strong power, throws in combination (not this one and done stuff you see from a lot of guys), and as we've pointed out, is a very durable fighter.

If he's so limited, why is he beating these guys? Why is Cotto, with his vastly superior technique, unable to make the final bell?

Flash and style are more aesthetically pleasing, but something has to be said of substance.

It's like what Jim Lampley said during the Chavez-Taylor Legendary Nights. Here was one guy, Chavez, who was like a pickup truck to Taylor's Lambourghini, but Chavez's less stylish pickup truck could run over Taylor's flashy sportscar.

It doesn't have to be pretty to be effective. And so far, it's been pretty effective.

Not sure why you only highlighted one line that you disagreed with and ignored the rest of the argument but cool.

Where would Floyd be if he couldn't shoulderlean? Where would Haye be if he had no power? Where would the Klits be if the HWD wasn't full of bums.. Kinda answers itself doesn't it?

As i watched the fight, it thought to myself "damn is this guy lucky he can take a punch". In the end, Marg's constant pressure and ability to take a punch is what won him the fight. Against elusive fighters, Marg will look silly. It was Cotto, who is not particularly known for his speed or elusiveness, and he was able to make Margarito look foolish for the first 6-7 rounds. This is why i say that Floyd has the ability to box circles around Margarito.

                      Your thoughts?
Margs would be moping the floor at a Tijuana strip club.
