That decision of Smoger allowed a rematch to happen. If he didn't stop it, there would've been no rematch, because Taylor could've gotten seriously hurt.

The fact is Taylor feel to both knees, and Smoger jumped on him its really at the refs, discretion he could have gave Taylor 10 secs to recover, or he coulda did what he did look at it its at his discretion... Pavlik knocked him down but was punishing him brutally, Taylor should have got the 10 count but Smoger jumped on him when he fell!

I made a thread like this right after the race.
Smoger should have given Taylor 8 seconds to get up. Jumping in while Taylor was on the way down makes no sense.
It is very doubtful that Taylor was going to get up, but as a champion he deserved to try and make it to his feet.

Deserve it or not, you have to understand that Smoger is a fighters ref, and he was closer to the action than all of us. You can tell Taylor was CLEARLY KTFO, I am sure Smoger had a better idea of that than we did.
Not an early stoppage, Taylor coulda been killed.

After watching the fight over a year after it happened I'm starting to think ref Smoger jumped in too quickly. At the time I thought the stoppage was a good one because Taylor was clearly in distress but now I'm not so sure. Smoger should have given Taylor the chance to get up. Anyone think differently?

It was a legit stoppage. Taylor looked in pretty bad shape slumped in the corner like that.
I agree that in a championship fight the ref should count though. If taylor looked loopy after the count he could stop it.
