    Good idea or bad idea?

Roy has always done the worst against the ropes.(Tarver I is a good example, he was better in the middle of the ring) So that would seem to be a bad idea. However now that hes even older, maybe its a good idea. If he fights off the ropes effectively maybe thats his best chance. Let Calzaghe be the aggressor while Roy lays against the ropes and throws counters...

Maybe thats a better idea than trying to box Calzaghe in the middle of the ring...
IMO If Jones Fights off the ropes hes gonna get pummeled by Calzaghe against them with lot and lots of pitty pat punches ! but then how else is he gonna fight?? cause hes got no footwork any more?
I cant see how Jones can win,but he might catch Calzaghe with the Odd pot shot !But calzaghe takes it via UD!

If Jones is gonna get pummeled, he's gonna get pummeled regardless of where he's at--the ropes OR the center of the ring.

But...maybe you guys know more than he does because he said yesterday (in regards to fighting off the ropes), "I'm gonna be exactly where he wants me to be and exactly where I wanna be."

You have good points BUT I look at it like this. Roy's only lost once on POINTS and that was to TARVER who Roy was scared of and punch shy. He let Tarver out punch and out land him all night. I assure you Tarver's flurries are A LOT stronger than Calzaghe's. Yes, Joe will throw more BUT I don't think it will effect him as bad as everyone thinks. Roy's not ****** nor is he one dimensional and can adapt to flurry slaps and windmils etc. etc..

Jones lost only once on points to a guy that knocked him the **** out and got in his head. Roy psyched himself out. But why wouldn't he? He lost back to back by KO's and one of them he was facing again.... I would be too

When was the last time Joe Calzaghe actually HURT someone with his so called power? Lacy..... I guess you could say he was hurt (mentally). He just took a beating but never was knocked out.... IMO A 36 year old glass handed Joe Calzaghe will not fully commit to his punches. He will just slap away looking to out point him. I think even at this point in Roy's career he can overcome that.

But if Joe wins, he will do so as you said. Just by out working him. Good points on your part.

He did say that..... I was like WTF does that mean??? lol Roy always has a way with words. But he likes to keep things to himself until fight night. He likes to answer questions but not REALLY answer them until he steps in the ring.

it means joe is gonna be happy he gets roy on the ropes thinking its good for him, when in reality its exactly where roy wants to be, because he knows exactly what joes is going to do, hes going to throw a flurry when hes on the ropes, and everytime joe throws a punch, he gives roy an opening. and Roy knows this, hence the quote.

This is a guy whom was p4p #1 for years, one of the best boxers this sport has seen, frightening speed even at this age, a great boxing brain and tactics, the confidence and style to adapt and overcome.

He beat a top LHW after losing a lot of weight, and in the rematch got knocked out with an unlucky punch on his weak chin. Johnson is also a top LHW and Roy was competitive, he just didn't deal with his pressure well with his confidence dented, and the power got to him.

Since that he's been largely written off for those losses, mostly because it's a shock to see such a hero character lose in devastating fashion and he's just not quite the unbelievably great fighter he was.

Well hang on, of course he's not he was ridiculously great, now he's just good/great. Not a huge down grade really, he's still an elite boxer, has had some good wins, one over Tito when he even has a serious arm injury. He's still quick, fit, powerful, with a great boxing brain, tactics and ability to adapt and overcome opponents.

Calzaghe is 36 himself aswell, and it's the first time he's faced someone with as quick hands, let alone someone with quicker hands. Calzaghe's also not faced many opponents with such immensely good boxing brains and tactics before. Hopkins is, but he can't adapt like Roy still can fairly well.

Calzaghe I guess does have one punch KO power when you consider, if the guy was coming in, he landed a rare hard punch in a perfect spot and angle it might do. This is unlikely though he might be less cautious with his hands in his last fight. However, he rarely knocks out opponents period, why should that be a major advantage for Roy, when he has a weak chin. Surely that just means if his shots can trouble guys like Kessler and Lacy whom are tougher, it could well still enough to harm Roy.

I still have Calzaghe winning by a clear UD, but it won't be easy like many make out. I hope people realise and accept Roy performed well because I have faith he will. It depends who shows up though. Confidence is key, and I see the first hard ish shot landing as a major boost to whomever lands it, and it possibly getting the better of the other.
That was a very good/great post. One of the most intellegent and accurate ones yet. Thanks very much for breaking character for us. JK, LOL. It's the best I have read from you thus far. Sincerely.
