Actually, prime Hopkins was beating up on Glen Johnson while Calzaghe in his prime was beating on Omar Sheika...or an old Chris Eubank if you prefer.

And LOL@ you saying Hopkins drew with Mercardo. Yeah, the same way Whitaker drew with Chavez.

Hopkins must be pretty good if he can go down twice and still get a draw

Chris Eubank? LOL. There's a reason he stopped fighting in the U.S. after 1987...if that's considered one of Zag's biggest accomplishments...then DAMN!

what kills me, is when the calzaghe fans speak of joe... The one thing they come up with ALWAYS is EUBANK... lol it kills me... Its like O YEAH.... o yeah, well joe calzaghe fought Eubank... and then, and then.... and then he fought lacy... yeah LACY... he fought everyone... EUBANK and LACY, yeah! thats everyone... he is awesome!!! It kills me!

Yes I know he fought more people, but when you hear the same name EUBANK, over and over one would swear that was his only real OPPONAT, of course up until LACY and Kessler and grandpa HOP.... and then theres the "World class fighter" Peter Manfredo that Joe SPOKE so highly about.... lol

I think i'm in a Joe Calzaghe bashing mood. I just watched some of his old fights and I cant help it, its too funny. So I apologize in advance. I don't mean to bash.

It isn't the same at all.

Hopkins was knocked down twice, and you could make a case for Mercado deserving the decision.

Hopkins was a much better fighter, as he proved in the rematch in America, but I think that the altitute affected him and he clearly wasn't at his best that night.

Agreed, although I'd argue that Hopkins knocked him down several times as well but for some reason, they were just "slips." Furthermore, I thought Hops deserved it. And judging by the draw, the judges thought so too.

Hopkins would have been knocked out.
Calzaghe could fire with venom an d Hopkins was not as negative in his heyday.
Which would have played to Joes advantage.
The man who trades with Joe loses the counter.

Calzaghe beat Omar Sheika in 5 rounds and Sheika was coming off a win over...Glen Johnson.

Calzaghe beat and "old" 31 year old Chris Eubank but at 36 Calzaghe isn't considered old.

Yeah, Sheika really beat him. And then he went on to do even greater things.

And yeah, Eubank wasn't old. I mean, what was his last significant victory again before Calzaghe? And how many fights did he have after Calzaghe? And at what weight?
