Hey at all you Wlad-huggers i have to agree that Wladimir is the Nr.1 heavyweight and has beaten some of the best guys the heavyweights had to offer. Unification is always difficult but he unified against Ibragimov(Not Wlads bad that Ibragimov is such a poor champ) and has beaten Nr.1 contednders he had to fight like Thompson or Austin(again, not Wlads fault these guys are Nr.1 contenders). The next opponent will be Povetkin, a gold-medallist and one of the best opponent you can get in todays heavyweight division. I agree that the heavyweights are verry poor at the moment, Wlad is the only world-class heavyweight today but if you think he would be the favourite against prime Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe or even Mercer and Moorer you are delusional!! Peter is the second best guy and i hope he improves more, hes still verry young and could slim down a few pounds, i see potnetial in him he could still get much better than he is right now and hopefully he will improve cause hes in my oppinion the most entertaining heavyweight right now.

i'd have to agree. wlad could have problems with bowe or even prime mercer since both are pretty good punchers and have great chins.

moorer in prime condition was a strong cruiserweight and skilled but he was lazy , not very dedicated to boxing and chinny.

Yeah not sure what the hell Wlad was doing on that list. I voted Ali, but saw some good arguments as to why Holmes was a more complete fighter, he just didn't have the physical gifts that Ali had. Couldn't change my vote at that point.

ali was far superior to holmes in a lot of categories but holmes was no slouch in any category.

Shrink Lewis or Wlad down to about 6'2", 220 and they are both pretty ordinary. What they would still have in power/jab would be more than offset by deficiencies in chin/defense.

By Troy Ondrizek - As with everything in life whether it is a dynasty or a boxing division, the person or entity in charge at that time, has the period or era named after them. We have the Ming dynasty and the era of Ali for example. However, the current heavyweights have no champion and haven’t since Lennox Lewis. Yes, a fact disclosed by scribes more often then the Bush Administration mentioned that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. So why mention this again? Honestly, I’m tired of Wladimir Klitschko (the division’s number one contender) fighting fights that don’t matter.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Tony Thompson, he is a skilled smart fighter, but he isn’t a good enough fighter or ranked high enough to make this a real world title fight. Wladimir talks of being the best and being a great champion, and he isn’t the only one, but the heavyweights as a whole seem to want to be great but run when the chance arises. The heavyweight division is a walking contradiction. Thus we are at this point where the heavyweights have no name. [details]

Totally agree. I hate that too. The guy has been fighting a bunch of tailor made opponents for longer than i care to remember. What a ****ing joke.I never seen Klitschko is a competitive fight. Ever! Well, if you don't count the bums who managed to floor him and KTFO him.

The point is the heavyweight division is in the doldrums. Why would you pay good money to see any of them fight? I'd go to see the lighter weight fighters because it's value for money.

Don't get me wrong its great to see different people populate the heavier divisions and that is something Ali has said for years. Different countries staking claim to the different divisions.

But it does not remove the fact that the flag ship of boxing is not as strong as it could be.

Normally I agree with everything Troy writes, but this article really sucks.

Why don't writers recognize Wlad for being what he is: a great champion.

We couldn't find a better man to represent the sport. He doesn't **** women and bite his opponents ears like Tyson, brag and behave childishly like Ali, or use illegal headbutts like Holyfield. Wlad is a soft-spoken gentleman, a good sportsman in and out of the ring, and one of the most powerful punchers we've ever seen.
