They didn't clearly give it to anyone until Hopkins had fought and beaten De La Hoya in September of that same year.
...and it was a toss up.
Hopkins only got it because he fought a bigger name and won by KO.

      Great Point.

Do you think that the CASUAL FAN knows who either manny pacquaio or Kelly pavlik are??

manny and kelly could enjoy a quiet dinner TOGETHER in most any ESPNZone.

Dude. The casual fan has bought a total of ZERO pacquiao or Pavlik fights. ZERO. Are you dis*****g this?

        One week... really?

You do realize that the Ring ****zine rankings come out monthly...right?

Would you like to make a wager, and I'll post the rankings?

I think the casual fan has averaged 150k buys for each of pacman's and pavlik's last couple of fights. you see how easy it is to make up numbers? this is a well known common sense in boxing. the hardcore fans make up very little of the total boxing fanbase.

Ring is only ****ing recognized by boxing purists.
What they say on air - as in on TV - is what most fans are gonna recognize.
            You should know that.

You ask a casual fan who watches boxing, but isn't heavily into it when was the last time he bought a Ring ****zine, I bet his answer will be "Never".

He should be able to see that Manny and Kelly are exciting fighters, and that's why the media and fans like them. If he was a real man, he would give them credit, instead of being a jealous 'lil *****.
It all comes down to Floyd talking about how some guys who have beaten old guys have gotten super props but looked ordinary in other fights. He is also talking about how Pav really hasn't done anything inboxing yet and is getting major props. Pav's trainer calls out 40Cal, and Cal basically says pad your resume meaning fight some middleweights, and Pav is somehow king because 40cal says what he said. Floyd only gave his opinion and many are getting a rise out of this and talking ******. The perception of floyd is he ducked fighters. We all know that isn't the truth. People say he should've tried harder to ko dlh or baldomir. 2 guys with steel chins, and he is crticized. I think all fans know Floyd is the best in the world and appreciate him, but really were turned off by his new found image of being wanted to be hated.

The popularity of Pacquiao and Pavlik is increasing with every spectacular win, Floyd's is decreasing with every boring decision.

mayweather realizes he is not a great fighter because he cant go toe to toe and go to war like pacquiao and pavlik. and pacquiao has moved up more divisions than him and still stands toe to toe and knocks people out. mayweather wishes he was the fighter that pac is.

The man is just upset he ain't gotten the outpourin of love he was probably expectin to get when he walked. You know, 'can't miss sumthin til it's gone' type ****. I'm sure he'll come back anyway, but he mighta thought people who hated on him before would squash the animosity toward him and praise him when he left. Instead, tougher and more excitin fighters are gettin more shine and most are sayin good riddance to him.
