hi people im new to the site and just thort id leave a post. firstly id like to say the fight was good with mcellan nokin down ben in rds 1 and 8. The fight was exciting. I dont see how you can hate on benn for just boxing its not lyk he was stamping on his hed wen he was on the floor. Mcellan is blind n disabled to this day as a result of his corner not realising the state he was in..

I always found it amazing that despite all the problems he was having he still put benn down again in the 8th

BENN NIGEL =DIRTY ****EN ROTTEN PEICE OF ****.....NO CLASS .....HES A NON STOP RABBIT PUNCHER!!
I cannot remember a single fight in which Sam Peter had a point deducted for rabbit-punching. Same thing for Holyfield for leading with his head.

Bad refereeing is everywhere. A tighter general enforcement of the boxing rules is wanted in Britain as well as anywhere else IMO.

this guy is chattin what i affectionately call bo-lax. he just sounded off a whole load of crap. no1 goes into the ring thinking or hoping to injury maim or kill an opponent. benn is a born again christian and has repented for what he did despite havin no intention to do so, so ur cryin and bitchin is unnecessary.

Both boxers are in my all time favourite list. What is the threadstarter trying to prove? That Benn intended to paralyse Gerald? Are you insane?

I'm not saying Benn was a fair/clean boxer, but going into a fight against one of the hardest hitters of all time pound for pound (who also was not a clean fighter), you cannot expect a pure boxfest. This fight was always going to brutal, but wasn't supposed to end the way it did.

It is deeply sad to see Gerald in the state he is in, but Benn or the ref cannot be harshly blamed. Especially after the knockdown in the 8th.

If you had watched this fight live, you would be seeing a different fight. It's much different seeing it after you learned of the aftermath.

I agree that overall refereeing is poor. Disputable decisions and even regrettable ones can not be stopped and will happen for years, but can be clamped down if dirty tactics (headbutts/rabbit punching) were penalised more frequently resulting in a better outcome.
