Bigger draw.....Mayweather/De La Hoya II or Mayweather/Cotto?????

How is Mayweather-Cotto winning this poll?

Mayweather-Cotto is 100x a better matchup than Mayweather-DLH 2, but it doesn't mean it's a bigger "draw" or "money fight". DLH is much more popular and known than Cotto.

Which would be bigger to the fans????? I am trying to respectfully prove a point to two certain posters.

to the hardcore boxing fans? mayweather vs. cotto.

to general fans (all boxing fans in the world including casual fans) mayweather v. de la hoya.

With the casual fans you will do better numbers because de la hoya and mayweather are two big NAMES...it would be known as the de la hoya/floyd mayweather fight...(or in this case rematch).

to the casual fans cotto v. mayweather would be; "a mayweather fight against some guy" (basically).

more would pay (casual fans) to see two big names they know rather than pay for mayweather to fight someone they never heard of or barely heard of but probably never seen fight...

to the hardcore fans cotto v. mayweather would come close to making their year probably in terms of who they want to see mayweather fight...hardcore fans dont really want to tune in (and spend $50+) to see mayweather fight someone they are about 99% sure he will win...only reason they do is because they couldnt stand to NOT see it when the rest of the world is...

to the hardcore fans mayweather v. cotto (at the moment at least...or unless cotto loses) is the fight...cotto right now is appearing to be the "guy" in the welterweight division to give mayweather his toughest challenge (over guys like quintana or cintron)...

Im sure the casual fans would rather see mayorga v. mayweather at 154 because mayorga is a decent sized NAME...

i personally though am in favor of the de la hoya rematch AND the cotto fight...if i could only pick one i'd rather see the cotto fight...the only reason im interested in the rematch is because oscar came close last time and was one round away from a draw and two away from a win...closer than anyone else has gotten...

but for me cotto v. mayweather is the bigger deal fight to me (as a fan)...

to the casual fans its de la hoya v. mayweather...

but then i dont live in america i dont really know how high cotto's profile is.

The thing that is missing is both fighters fighting in their proper weight division. Cotto is the man at welterweight and has beaten the better line of fighters in that division.

When Hatton came up to welterweight, in reality he was beaten by Louis Collozo and exposed for not knowing how to deal with boxer/movers. Cotto is a fight that would be even and i don't think that there would be a favorite in that fight.

Cotto has never been exposed for a weakness in welterweight.

What happened in the first fight that would convince the fans to watch the rematch? Nothing really, the fight was exposed for being nothing more than hype. Honestly, the build up to the fight was better than the fight itself. Now we have already been through and seen all of the De La Hoya/Mayweather series and the hype and now its time to move on. Its just so predictable now.


You will not know what will happen with the Mayweather/Cotto fight. People want to see two unbeaten fighters that are in their prime, not a promoter/businessman that is only interested in making money and fighting past his prime. Mayweather and Oscar is only worried about getting big paydays and the fans know that. Now if you said that the first Mayweather/De La Hoya fight would do more numbers than Cotto/Mayweather then i would have to agree as of this moment.

The same result will happen in the rematch, but with Mayweather winning in a more decisive fashion.

I would definitely say cotto and mayweather. dlh and mayweather has already been. i honestly that the rematch will have the same outcome. whats gonna beat oscar is the same thing that beat him last time, stamina. he will tire out and floyd will capitialize on that. cotto will present a better challenge since he is young, a good boxer, good power, and has great stamina. if mayweather doesnt fight cotto after hes done with mayweather, i would say hes ducking him. sorry floyd fans, its just how i feel

Do you see the ridiculous difference here? even if 75% of the people that watched the 1st fight... dont order the 2nd fight, itll STILL sell almost double what cotto mosley did... because the casual fans...

I know girls that buy oscar fights because they think hes hot.... oscar is MONEY... cotto isnt there yet... only to the hardcore boxing fan


I think a lot of the people that voted cotto mayweather voted thinking its the better fight... not the better draw.. as in ppv revenue... oscar can fight a punching bag and itll do a million ppv buys... throw the best fighter in the world in the ring with him.. and watch historic numbers.... especially when the 1st fight was the closest floyd has ever come to losing.

Give Mayweather/Cotto the promotion, hype and build up the way they did the Mayweather/Hatton or the Mayweather/De La Hoya fight and you have a mega event that would be huge. It would be the only super fight that Mayweather did that would actually be even and both guys are fighting at their proper weight.

Cotto is better known in the US than Hatton is so he is the bigger draw. Grandmothers at the barbershop that i go to once a month talk about this possible match up and we always discuss it.

I think since so many people were dissapointed about the first DLH v. Mayweather fight the Cotto one would do more.

You have both who are undefeated..
Both coming off of career high wins.
You have a fighters fighter fighting a boxing technician.
You have a fight that has been hyped and brewing for months that
every boxing fanatic wants to see.
You have Miguel Cotto who has a very large Latin fan base both in the U.S.A.
and the Carribean.
You have Mayweather who is now a semi-household name do the DLH fight and then not so much but still Ricky Hatton.


If they market this fight like the Hatton v. Mayweather or DLH v. Mayweather
I believe it does better numbers.


The casual fans will remember how the first DLH v Mayweather didn't live up to the hype and won't buy it.. This is something new and exciting.
All you have to do is play the Ricky Hatton KO over and over and Miguel Cotto destroying practically everybody they put in front of him and it will be sold!
