The bottom line is it would had to have been an outstanding performance for Hatton to beat Mayweather, and that's despite the usually top notch Joe Cortez having a bad night. There is no doubt in my mind that the occasion got to Hatton a little bit, but he didn't do himself any favours with his Gung-Ho approach... That sort of approach was never going to work on Mayweather. I was in favour of the consistent pressure that Hatton was talking about applying prior to the fight, but it just wasn't controlled. He was attacking in straight lines, not using any angles, and not going to the body as often as he should have done... Basically, he was head hunting and looking to knock Mayweather out, especially after the cut. Although i rate Hatton a very good fighter, he does have flaws that Mayweather exposed further (although they have been evident throughout his career, even in his best performance against Tszyu), and i really believe that questions have to be asked of his trainer Billy Graham. My reason being that Hatton has natural talent that he hasn't developed. Again (as in another of my posts) that may sound daft due to the fact that Hatton was unbeaten prior to fighting Mayweather, but i honestly believe that Graham is lacking something tactically & technically.

I've thought for some time that Hatton needed another trainer. Hatton & Graham may be a match made in heaven with regards to their personal relationship, but loyalty can sometimes have the wrong effect professionally. Although Billy Graham isn't the worst trainer in the world, i think that Ricky Hatton has also got by on natural talent, and Graham hasn't really been able to add that little bit extra over the years, and Hatton may have had the, 'if it isn't broke then why fix it?' attitude due to him going 43-0 prior to the Mayweather fight, but i thought there were flaws in Hatton's style that another trainer could have, and still can try to iron out to some degree. There is no shame in losing for the first time against the best fighter in the world, and my opinion is not a knee jerk reaction it is something i have thought for a while.

Hahahaha. I guess it would make sense after you hit the Pub first to hydrate.

i agree with a lot of what u said

however PBF has the kind of style where he is able to soak up preassure & sap your energy then capatalise on your mistakes later on in the fight ,Hatton grappling all the while did'nt exactly leave a lot in the tank either

Hatton got hit more towards the end of the fight more due to fatigue thats why is defence started to leak ,exactly the same as Taylor's did against Pavlik

Jermain Taylor got away with dropping his hands in the early rounds yet paid for when he tired & his reflexes slowed down ,its like Floyd said do not get tired he seems to capatilise when his oponent tires like the Dela Hoya fight

No one knows whats best for Hatton except for him. It's not all about training techniques even though most have called out Graham's as being suspect. Having a different atmosphere in camp might do Ricky more harm than good.

Its not Graham's fault Hatton lost. Hatton just go back to 140. He's a made fighter. What u gonna change? He's fought this way for 43 fights...

i like watching both fighters although im not a huge fans of either fighter ,it does sadden me that pricks like u get so much satisfaction out of his defeat though ,but that probably says more about u as a person & your insecuritys

if Hatton is a bum wtf are u ,u aint never won a world title or a been undisputed light weltereweight world champion yet u still see fit to call the Hatton a bum , see that is how far your Boxing knowledge stretches the word former champion infont of his name kinda contradicts the statement he is bum dont ya think
Be sad then. We party on.

"insecuritys"???...are they still teaching english in school?

His defense early was what I just put in bold. Plus, Floyd's fighting ways have changed. He has decided to just relax and sit there early in fights, unlike what he used to do.

Even with Tszyu, Hatton smothered Tszyu with grappling, wearing down the Old champ who only fought 9 rounds in 3 years.

The fight with Tszyu gave him to much confidence in his strength. Tszyu was known as the strongest MF at 140, and by wearing Kostya down, it must have made him feel like Hercules. But the truth is this, Kostya was 35, had been on the decline for years, injury prone and was in the hospital more than in the ring, 9 rounds in 3 years, inactivity kills, and was still trying to make 140, despite his thick frame. Tszyu felt "flat" which means, no strength, which helped Hatton in the fight, but hurt him in the long run.

When I watched the fight I kept wondering when Billy Graham was going to become usefull in the corner.
                  Surely it wasn't stagefright?
Or did he realise that his "Dream" he had of Hatton winning was just that before they entered that ring?
I can't knock the guy for anything until the Mayweather fight.
But where was his ****ing passion and motivation skills that night?
Even my mate who never watches boxing said "Why doesn't he tell Hatton to do something different instead of telegraphing"?

How ****** is this, Ricky fought the perfect fight its not Grahams fault. Unless they are having problems that the media doesn't know.

Oh, I completely disagree with that.

The job of a trainer isn't necessarily to have a fighter feeling comfortable and happy during training. The fighter isn't necessarily supposed to know what's best for him. That is the trainer's job. A trainer is a coach. A drill seargent , sometimes. Putting his guy into uncomfortable situations that allow him to grow and develop.

Graham said that he was watching and dissecting Mayweather FOR YEARS and had developed a plan to beat him. Um, OK.

What did we see different in Ricky?
