Conn vs Louis 2, original date

Billy Conn was supposed to have a rematch with Joe Louis June 25th of 1942 but broke his hand in a fight with his father in-law. The fight was postponed until October 12th, but secretary of war Henry Stimson cancelled it in September saying it conflicted With the standards and interests of the Army and ordered both Louis and Conn to return to their duties as both had joined earlier in the year.

Let's say the fight doesn't get cancelled and the rematch goes on as planned. Does Conn do as well as the first fight? Possibly take the title? Or does it go as the second fight went where Louis famously said "he can run, but he can't hide"?

If you would like to read a 'why' the fight got cancelled here is a personal rant I wrote:

To answer you question directly, it would certainly have been a better fight than the '46 stinker. 'Stinker' being Billy Conn's word for it.

Louis wins again, probably stops Conn again.

Both men were actually in uniform when the fight was to take place but I believe they were running legit training camps despite the war.

It was to be a million dollar gate; they had to refund tickets.

I think Louis stop Billy again, probably around the fifth round.

As far as your rant goes....that was one helluva well written and informative rant. Thanks for sharing it.
