Boxing has major problems in it's culture too. Fighters like Floyd Mayweather have been bad for boxing overall. Why is it so important to protect their undefeated records? I am sick of elite fighters facing tomato cans time and time again. Promoters and Managers in this sport have massive ego problems, and don't work together enough.

With a clear and dominant number one promotion in the sport; boxing would be better off. Can't see that ever happening though. Even the fans in the sport talk as much about the promoters as they do about the fights.
    - -Pretty much nailed it.

Dana runs his own league to guide the fighters. Boxing more schizo with less firmament to to make more coherency esp for the journeymen who are the beaten up core of the athletes.

You proceed to bore us to tears with an MMA news update we couldn't care less about . . .

and finally you a announce that the thing we love is garbage and dead . . . but you want us to be nice to you (or else we must be idiots.)

OK here comes what you didn't want to hear . . .

A grown man (especially not a fighter) should never lay on his back, wrap his legs around another man's waist like a ***** waiting to be fooked. It is so disconcerting to watch them do that.

Your sport, your participants have no skills, (that's why you have to called it the very ****** name "mixed" martial arts); it is filled with amateurs; they are poorly conditioned, Oh! and let me repeat they wrap their legs around each other like *****es waiting to be fooked.

Now please by all means reply telling us this is exactly the type of reply your superior self was hoping to avoid; it will be the first correct statement you pulled out of your ass all day.

You back stabbing, trader, condescending, self righteous. know-it-all, twit!

There will always be the martial art of boxing, there will always be other men you punch each other in the back of the head, kick each other in the balls, and choke each other. That second group is your guys. Enjoy!
Why shouldn't a grown man be on his back? Grappling is a part of fighting, just like throwing punches is. All he was trying to say was that MMA makes the fights fans want to see and boxing often doesn't. The part he left out is that's because MMA fighters get paid a lot less for the most part and are under contract from a set of owners, similar to people that work for pro wrestling promotions, even though the competition is quite real, so that makes it a bit easier.

But why the anger? If you don't like jiu jitsu or any submission style fighting, just don't watch it. And when's the last time you saw an MMA fight? Punches to the back of the head and groin shots were made illegal by the late 90s, at least 20 years ago. That's why the sport is regulated in every state now. Choke holds are legal because it's a type of submission.

Is a fierce cod grip still legal in the UFC, by buggery?

          Just being a troll!

I got nothing against MMA (well I do, but not to that extent) my son is a big fan and I watch and pretend I'm interested, because he is my son.

I got annoyed when I read the OP's opening. He pretty much knew he was going to piss us off and tried to preempt any aggressive response; i.e he wanted to offend but get a free ride doing it.

And I was going to give it to him until I got to the end where announced, in his great wisdom, that Boxing was dead. Then I looked and saw he had 18,000 boxing posts and I thought, "you trader, where's your loyalty?"

At that ;point, I thought, "Na!" no free ride and I went full troll. I jumped him with all the crap I tease my son with.

          Sorry

            True Story...
Had an issue of Black Belt in the second bathroom we had in San Francisco. It had two UFC fighters, sort of fighting/posing on the cover. They has tats, shorts, and were grappling in some fashion.

my wife finds the mag and was like "is there some proclivity you have you want to tell me about after 10 years?" She thought it was a gay **** mag. I had to really explain why two guys with tats, short shorts, and looking like they were playing a round of grab a ss were on the cover of a martial arts mag.

LOL -- I actually do find that particular 'defensive tactic' a bit disconcerting; maybe it's better to be punched in the face.

There is one of those 'top ten' type you tube videos out there (it is not a Top Tenz) about the progression of MMA rules. It seems early on they had a problem with one fighter who insisted on wearing very short shorts and was going 'full Corbett' during the matches. According to the video, the league dude didn't ban him or the shorts he just never promoted another of the guy's fights, and the rest got the message and more appropriate singlets appeared.

Ah, I understand. You guys just reminded me of two shows in recent memory. One was a South Park episode where the boys are big fans of WWE and want to become wrestlers. So when they try out for the school's wrestling team and see how different the real thing is, they're uncomfortable with all the closeness and grabbing of real wrestling. They later start their own wrestling promotion with crazy soap opera type stories, which interest Vince McMahon, but the funniest part is the gym coach gets fired for not only trying to teach real wresting, but when they find photos of it on his phone, the principal mistakes it for gay p**n LOL.

The short shorts also remind me of the show Reno 911! which had a character named Lt. Dangle, whose sheriff's shorts were way shorter than they should be and there was a running joke about him being gay but not admitting it on the show. In one episode, he was found cross dressing with hookers and claimed to be undercover haha. Pretty funny, was done by the comedy troupe The State, which used to have their own sketch comedy on MTV in the 90s as well.

Oh yeah and one other thing. MMA fans joke about it too. Like the "north south position" on the ground we even sometimes call "The 69" because it looks so much like 2 guys doing that to each other. It's how I even break it down to new or non fans. Like the guard I call missionary, north/south I call 69, half guard, could be called half missionary or half mish, the mount is pretty self explanatory, a high mount can be called balls deep or T bagging. Closed guard looks more loving.

                    Been saying this forever.

The UFC had a great advantage coming after boxing had been all laid out & they got a crystal clear vision of what works & what doesn't. Boxing needs to start fixing or getting rid of those things that don't work or aren't fan friendly. The bottom line is boxing needs to start looking after boxing & less at the promoters, ABC groups & even the fighters. Boxing is the only sport where the inmates run the asylum. And it's the sport with the worst quality control of the product. That needs to be changed.

I mean I am as guilty as anyone... I didn't see the ****zine as funny, it took my wife pointing it out lol. Obviously having done grappling arts for a long time now, I don't find the set ups offensive, its just amusing our blindness lol.
