But Ali and Liston ushered in a new era of heavyweight. I call them both the granddadies of modern heavyweight boxing. Unfortunately for Patterson, there wasn't yet a cruiser weight division. But he did hold his own with the big boys. He was only stopped by Johansson, Liston and Ali. He avenged the loss to Johansson 2x and he was giving away about 20 pounds to Ali and Liston and 30 pounds in his second fight with Ali.

Patterson was one of the best 175-200 pounders to ever lace up gloves.
Firstly please look up what medal Ali won in the Olympics.

    1. No lightweight champion ever won the heavyweight championship until Spinks in the 80s, as a matter of fact, with the exception of Fitzsimmons all of the men who won the heavyweight champion and were champion in another division are alive today ! Spinks, Holyfield, RJJ and so on. All sub-6’undisputed champions were either contemporaries or came after Liston. Most came after Ali.

    2. Patterson was practically the same size as Liston.

    3. Ali and Liston are cruiserweights, Ali weighed 201.5 pounds in his prime. That’s hardly a modern superheavyweight now is it ?

Chris Byrd has no trouble against bigger men than Floyd faced.

      Well, you’ve been bugging me.

Jess Willard won the heavyweight championship of the world, what have you done that gives you the right to criticise him ?

        - -Mike Spinks was a gold medal middlewt and Liston obviously much bigger stronger than Patterson and near everything else by you is dead wrong.

Its not criticism to rate him among his peers. Like I said(and for the last time)he was strong and had a he ll of a heart, but that's about it.As far as his standing its a dog fight for last imo between him and Carnera. So there, its over you think he is great, and I don't. Go live your life and I will do same.
