I also heard Harold Lederman just passed away at 79 after a long battle with some form of cancer.

Bert Cooper just passed away. Would he be champ in this era?

no. And he had to much class to try and pretend picking up a minor belt (ibo, wbf) was legit. RIP BC.

What happened?
Cooper was entertaining, but imo he fought the fight of his life against Holyfield. I generally consider him more of a journeyman or gatekeeper at best. I don’t see him as champion of any of the main alphabet org tbh.

As far as today, Bert would be easily dispatched by AJ, however given Deyonce never learned how to box and given Bert's low crouching style with unorthodox delivery of booming punches, he'd have a better than even chance if he mixes body and head for an early stoppage of that thug.

The Best line of all time after the Holyfield bout .
“ No More ESPN Fights.”
That was classic Bert.
But let’s be Honest Bert was a stepping stone fighter.
And I saw Bert live many many times in Atlantic City.
Bert was a staple down there being from Pennsylvania.
He wouldn’t be champion today guys. Be realistic,
He was a light Heavyweight/ cruiser weight.
The top HW destroy cooper.
I don’t want to speak down on a man that just passed but let’s not lose perspective.
Gate keeper stepping stone
There is nothing wrong with being that as a fighter.
Every era needs guys like Cooper/ Jesse Ferguson/ Buster Mathis sr / Randy Neuman. There is no shame in being a top 20 fighter for god sakes.
Rest In Peace Bert.
