Are knockouts more common today than in days of old?

No..
I feel most knockouts in this era are from mismatches where the protected fighter just blows out a no-hope cherrypick.
In today’s big fights, guys fight a lot more defensively and don’t take many chances, resulting in a lot of decisions

The question is, if this is more widespread today, than in the old days?

Not really. Just with fewer fights in a boxer's career, there is more attention paid to it, plus with fights being on TV and online, we have more of a chance to see more fighters. Would be great if we had Ultra HDTV and online streaming back in the days of Harry Greb or Jack Dempsey or when Robinson was a welterweight.

In the past guys would fight a dozen times a year, 8 bums and 4 legit guys..
Now guys fight 2 maybe 3 times a year, and it can be all bums, for years.
Huge difference

Hmm, Deontay Wilder is said to have fought mostly weak opposition thus far in his career. A unification bout with Anthony Joshua could put an end to those talks though.
