Are knockouts more common today than in days of old?

The only good thing from that era in my opinion is one champ per division. This is sorely needed right now, whether boxing gets a breakout promotion with all good fighters signed to it like UFC or something else. This guaranteed that the good fights had to happen.

As someone has sigged, boxing today is not a sport but a sport entertainment soap opera. The rankings are bullsheet and the best avoid each other as they and their promoters are afraid an L will mean the end of their marketability and big paydays and unfortunately the governing bodies are assisting this debacle.
yeah they obviously had tune ups, but not undefeated records cherry picked for 5 years. Robinson also fought guys in the top 10 5 or 6 times a piece. Nobody does that today lol. They were fighting every month back then.

      No..

I feel most knockouts in this era are from mismatches where the protected fighter just blows out a no-hope cherrypick.

In today’s big fights, guys fight a lot more defensively and don’t take many chances, resulting in a lot of decisions

Is padding your record with easy wins against no-hopers really a modern phenomenon? Hasn't this always been going on?

The question is, if this is more widespread today, than in the old days?

Not really. Just with fewer fights in a boxer's career, there is more attention paid to it, plus with fights being on TV and online, we have more of a chance to see more fighters. Would be great if we had Ultra HDTV and online streaming back in the days of Harry Greb or Jack Dempsey or when Robinson was a welterweight.

In the past guys would fight a dozen times a year, 8 bums and 4 legit guys..

Now guys fight 2 maybe 3 times a year, and it can be all bums, for years.

              Huge difference

Can you name some recent world title holders, who fought nothing but bums - for years?

Hmm, Deontay Wilder is said to have fought mostly weak opposition thus far in his career. A unification bout with Anthony Joshua could put an end to those talks though.

Big fighters may have 1 big fight every 2 years.

Haye, Donaire, Povetkin, Garcia have very solid records. Even Bute fought several good names.
