What would be your guess as to the state of boxing in 100 years?

There is a box off between the heavyweight champ, who is 700 pounds and when put in the ring smothers the other guy...because the champ is allowed to enter first and the other guy can't fit...and a new midget champ who is 2 feet high with a macrocephilic condition, i.e. a very big head...as the midget enters the ring he manages to pry under the champ, inserts his big head up the champ's rectum and is declared the winner as the champ is eviscerated from inside...the fight stopped due to internal bleeding...the midget's success is short lived as he is subsequently beat by the first challenger.


Seriously though. There might be a renaissance in boxing. I think Juggy is correct that bigger fighters will be the norm, there will be headgear as well. Then, a new league will emerge boxing in the old way...It will be much like when mma started, and pride was a rival. There will be a lot of talk about a bout between the two champs, the whole nine yards. The champ in the old boxing will be smaller and more nimble.... I think this is what will happen.

There will always be some form of boxing however the fighting element will be preferred over the skill level of boxing and I think it will return to "toeing the line" with deaths being the norm.
I have zero faith in the future in regards to humanity having any passion for it's fellow man. It will be the rich vs poor and there will be little to no concern over life. Were already there in many of my observations stated here.
When the middle class of any culture is devoured the common sense needed for all to remain sane and safe is destroyed.

If the cultures can rise above their current ways all personal combat will be abolished, as it should be. My faith in my fellow man isn't very healthy at this stage. There are so many people now who have been raised without respect for themselves that respecting others rights isn't a concern.

Im hoping it doesn't get driven underground by the health and safety brigade. It will exist in some form but it is dying at the grassroots

What would be your guess as to the state of boxing in 100 years?

The Twilight Zone did an episode where boxing in the future would be done by robots. This would be pretty interesting really. Haha.

I can see it being tremendously watered down if it stays on the same course it is today. Headgear wouldn't surprise me as well as even thicker gloves with more titles and more padding in every way until the viewers really do turn off the fights altogether.

But of course, trends always change. The state of the sport today will be different in a year and so on. So you really never know what's going to happen.

Most likely none of us will be here and this forum will be gone as well. Perhaps some of the posts will be floating out there so fans then will see what we were talking about, kind of like old newspaper boxing articles.

Yes and just like the Twilight Zone episode, the movie Real Steel was also based on Richard Matheson's short story Steel. Interesting you mention head gear, since I heard recently that the Olympics would be getting rid of head gear for boxers.
