    Most likely ego issues

As far as I know he would stop listening to Manny Steward, who had been really good to him. They then hired atlas who had a reputation of being a really tough loving guy, something Moorer needed.

It was interesting, because Atlas sometimes got more credit for doing the stuff Moorer did in the ring because of his antics as a trainer. People said Atlas won the Holyfield fight ffs! Little disrespectful toward Moorer, who I think was a little bitter about that for a while.

I don't quite undrstand what your point is: either Moore couldn't fight at a lower weight comfortably any more or, he chose to fight at heavyweight. I don't know what deliberations were involved sufficient to say that Moore, like a lot of fighters in those in between divisions went to fight heavyweight. If we take 3 great light heavies, cruisers off the top of my head: Spinks, Foster, Holyfield...they all tried for heavyweight titles....Its a normal part of that division...Mormeck a decent cruiser is a good example of how this continues today....I don't care why Moore did it all I know is like most in that division he went North to fight heavyweight.

My point was that 175 was an unnatural weight for Moorer. He was shrinking himself down to that weight just to win a title. Spinks and Foster were career lightheavies who had to bulk up for their relatively brief journeys up to heavyweight. Holyfield never was a pro at 175.

Thats silly. We have catch weights, nebulous divisions ect and we all accept that when a fighter can make the weight he is ready to fight at that weight. This point, true or not should not detracht from Moorer's accomplishments

I'll make a call to a guy that trained with him. I will ask him if Moorer moved up to Heavyweight because of weight issues or because of the Heavyweight pay days.
Kronk stable really took advantage of the previous day weigh-in and the full day to rehydrate. Moorer was ripped, as was Gerald McClellan at middleweight but by the fight time weigh in, Gerald might have been closer to cruiserweight. It was almost used as an extreme up to the tragic bout with Nigel Benn.
Kronk was not the only gym to take the advantage though. I remember Arturo Gatti's fight time weight resulting in a law suit after the Joey Gamache fight.

Didn't Holyfield turn pro at 175?

Holyfield never weighed 175 or less for a pro fight, and after his 4th fight he was never under 180 again.

Ok just seem to remember he started out at light heavy, but could be wrong.

I agree with you. I remember moorer saying he literally almost had to kill himself to get to 175 and hed walk around at well over 200 lbs and just couldnt do it anymore. he was very thick and big boned for a light heavyweight. hell,, he wore size 15 boots! 175 was most definitely an unnatural weight for moorer
