    Michael Moorer - Light heavyweight

    Just how good was he?

He had his debut in March '88 and by late '88 he fought for a version of the title (Inaugural WBO title). He knocked all of his opponents out at LHW under the tutelage of Manny Steward.

I thought he looked awesome at LHW, albeit against limited opposition.

How would he have fared against Virgil Hill in the late 80s early 90s?

What's your thoughts on his LHW career?

Moorer's resume at 175 was very, very weak. He was a shrunken down heavyweight picking off easy competition.

He was one of Pittsburghs best...not like that means anything outside of Greb and Conn

Michael Moorer was great to watch when he was a Light Heavy fighting down at Cobo in downtown Detroit. I got to see him on numerous occasions, always knocking his opponents out. One was carried off on a stretcher, he was out! Moorer was always a slow action type of fighter. Lulls you into complacency and then drops a bomb on you and then the ring announcer is announcing the results.

Hill would have been a good fight, Moorer would definitely have to put heavy pressure on Hill and increase his punch out put. Hills educated jab would be nullified by Moorers southpaw stance which would leave the fight coming down to straight lefts from Moorer and straight rights from Hill. Of course both fighters hooks would come into play.

When Hills jab is nullified he will have to become a different fighter and fight out of his comfort zone. Having to swap power shots and hooks with Moorer spells disaster for Hill when matched against a puncher of this stature.

Michael Moorer by late round tko.

He wasn't a shrunken down Heavyweight, he only moved up to fight Heavyweight because that's where the money was.

Once Moorer moved up from 175, he never weighed less than 212 again. It seemed obvious that he was a natural heavyweight.

Good fighter but very poor reign.

Well the other champs during his time where Prince Charles Williams & Virgil Hill, IMO i think Hill woulda outboxed with his Jab & excellent legs, Leslie Stewart had some success boxing Double M. Now a fight PC Williams woulda been exciting but I do believe Moorer's power would been the difference

If he stayed at light heavy, would he have eventually gotten to fight Roy Jones as well or was Moorer past prime by then? Maybe he wouldn't have been able to make the weight by then anyway. What would a Moorer-Jones fight look like though?
