Marciano retired with money and his dignity. So did Dempsey, Tunney, Jofre, and others as well.


Which leads to ask why some fighters are too dumb to handle their finances and know when to quit. Louis, Frazier, Robinson Jack Johnson, Hearns are a handful of very ****** fighters who could not retire with dignity.


Why is is that fighters like Delahoya, Mancini, O'grady, Cooney, can retire with money in the bank and dignity while others can't?


Mayweather, Broner, Holyfield, Tyson, Jones Jr, Toney, are either broke or will go broke. It's sad that they don't have the necessities that the other fighters have/had to handle their affairs in a professional manner. Maybe boxing needs a pension plan for those incapable of doing it on their own?

When a fighter, or any professional athlete retires wealthy they are an exception to the rule...the stats are out there.

I think it's safe to say he will retire with money. Manny should be alright as long as the IRS don't find his secret hideout in Fort General Santos and to be perfectly honest, most boxers today who win multiple world titles will probably retire with money, it's not the same as it was back in the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Holmes hated King and had the presence of will and mind to separate from King while he still had money. he then had restaurants.....What is instructive abut Larry?

Well a lot of athletes decide to buy restaurants, usually they partner up nationally. Problem becomes how much a guy like Dan Marino (for example) knows about steak eaters in tuskalooga alabama! Or, about restaurants for that matter.

Holmes was born and raised in Easton. He had a very good idea about who went to what kind of restaurant in that area.

Its similar with Foreman actually. Foreman used to talk about how he never had enough to eat growing up. He then had a problem because when he did have enough to eat, as a rich man, the calories added up. So when big George went into grills and burgers he was passionate about the problem and could speak from personal experience about the solution the grill proposed. To this day his grills are very well made. I don't use them but a lot of people do and you can see the fat roll off!! haha.

Someone mentioned that Floyd has real estate....Floyd is interested in ********. I doubt he knows much about where to buy real estate. Nicholas Cage also liked real estate....These guys put their trust in advisors....by comparison I bet Larry Holmes knows what a good steak should taste like. I bet he knows parts of town where people want a good steak. Ditto for George.
