Well when considering the animal one must consider the jungle. King is certainly the most ruthless but one thing about King.....If you look at his past he took on almost single handedly one of the most violet criminals. Dutch Schultz and his gang was old school. In those days the gangsters were ***ish immigrants and Dutch was living large....like Money May!

King is smart as smart can be in addition to being ruthless...he sort of managed to survive a few attempts oh his life until someone blew dutch up into wittle pieces!

What I take from this is that when we talk about guys like Arum, King and Warren (for example) these guys are ruthless, probably all sociopaths and probably don't make many mistakes.

Now....People of this generation see guys like Oscar, fifty cents trying to make a run of it...I have to laugh. Oscar can't handle the pressure, fifty is neither enough of a G, nor smart enough....I think that to be a succesful boxing promoter is like running a mob family. Ome mistake is all it takes.

I think that Arum and king are two of the most shady, smart, hardasses...I sort of feel that with Warren also but dont know him as well.
Dutch Shultz was killed in when King was a small child. This post doesn't make any damn sense.

I dont know if he was the most shady, but I wrote the post below years ago about Billy Nolan.

Originally posted by BattlingNelson View Post
The great promoter Tex Rickard was about to start his illustrious promoting career with the staging of a fight between world lightweight champion Joe Gans and the famous Battling Nelson. The fight was to take place in the boomtown of Goldfield, Nevada.

Nelson's manager Billy Nolan made every twist and turn to give his fighter the advantage.

Of the purse of $33,500 Nelson demanded $22,500. The champion Joe Gans got $11K.

The referee was to be George Siler who had been the ref. when Joe Gans threw a fight against Terry McGovern and he was prejudiced against blacks.

The last demand was the weigh-in. Nolan wanted to take advantage of Joe Gans's trouble of making the weight. When Gans asked that the weighing-in time be set at noon, three hours before the fight, Nolan countered with some requests of his own. He won them all. The men would weigh in three times on Labor Day (the day of the fight): at noon, at 1:30 and 3 o'clock, ringtime. The boxers would weigh in wearing their ring togs—shoes and trunks. If Gans was a fraction of an ounce overweight at any of the three weighins, Nolan threatened, he would claim a forfeit.

At noon the fighters weighed-in for the first time. The scales, set at 133 pounds, did not stir. It was the same story at the second weigh-in, at 1:30 p.m.

Gans had taken extraordinary precautions to keep within the limit: He had shaved practically every hair off his head, face and body and wore no socks. He had even tied his ring shoes with thin strings instead of shoelaces.

At 3 o'clock sharp, Gans stepped on the scales, and then Nelson, for the third time that day. Again the bar did not move.

Just before the fight started, Gans was handed a telegram from his mother. It's last four words immediately became a part of the common glossary in America. The wire read:

"JOE, THE EYES OF THE WORLD ARE ON YOU. EVERYBODY SAYS YOU OUGHT TO WIN. YOUNG PETER JACKSON WILL TELL ME THE NEWS AND YOU BRING HOME THE BACON."

And so it was on labor-day sep. 3 1906 in Goldfield Nevada. The rest is history.

To my knowledge, Don King is the worst. Tim Witherpoon signed to fight Frank Bruno under King for 1 million dollars but was only paid 90,000 of it. King was so bad that Witherspoon allegedly took a dive in his rematch with Bonecrusher Smith just to get out of contract with King. Don King has a history of screwing his fighters and there are too many to list right now. When Gerrie Coetzee knocked out King fighter Michael Dokes, King literally stepped over Dokes to negotiate with Coetzee LOL

Bob Arum is a notch below King but he is shady too. Convicted of bribing sanctioning bodies to manipulate ratings for his fighters. I also don't like the way he throws his own fighters under the bus like Bradley and Guillermo Rigondeaux

Didn't King also step over everyone Tyson beat when he was champion, since he had beaten all of King's heavyweights, in order to sign him? Anyone here ever see the Klitschko documentary? Vitali tells a story and they show a video where King tried to sign them when they turned pro. He said they were excited as first because this was the guy that managed Ali and Tyson. They saw him playing a classical piece on the piano. He later realized King wasn't really playing and the foot pedals were making the music instead. Vits then said that told him King was a liar and couldn't be trusted so they (fortunately) decided not to sign with him.
