Who would win between Jack Dempsey and Vitali Klitschko

Its fantastic to see this match up through so many prisms. There are so many different possabilities. I wish we could go to a far flung corner of the galaxy where the dempsey fight is just coming in, reassemble his photons and .... haha
Dempsey fought at a time when there were more ways to neutralize a bigger opponent. Ever wonder why weight, while important back then was not as absolute as today? Dempsey knew how to move well and had the skills to go fifteen rounds. They didn't even use a jab so much back then the way it is used now....so Dempsey would have a problem understanding Vitali's jab. I tend to think that exclusively in this case Vitali's jab would be a lot more useful because of reach.
Vitali did indeed get rocked by an out of shape Sanders. But Vitali does have the reach, jab and power to create some distance with Dempsey. His power is also a factor of course. If the fight dragged on into the later rounds I would give an advantage to Dempsey. But Vitali's power and reach would be a factor early.
There are so many variables.

This fight is a matter of if Dempsey can get inside and do enough damage to stop Klitschko, or if Klitschko stops him from doing so and in turn puts a beating on the smaller man. Common sense favours the bigger, durable man, (who is also fairly athletic and skilled for his size) but while he is the biggest guy Dempsey has ever seen, Dempsey is easily the fastest and most explosive guy he has ever seen.
Dempsey may just be able to get inside Klitschko and land, but undoubtedly Klitschko will enjoy his own success too, he has size and knows how to use it very well, hes a canny fighter. He would be able to hold and push Dempsey, as well as tag him coming in and at times he would probably be able to hold him at bay for a while as he shifts back holds, pushes, leans back etc.
I think this would be a war and Klitschko would have a fight on his hands for how long it lasted, but his size combined with his ability is too much for Dempsey, too much weight to give away to a skilled opponent. I think he stops Dempsey in the mid rounds.
Or perhaps even early, to be honest, depending on how Dempsey handles Klits punch. Dempsey had a great chin, but anyone that knows fighting knows taking a clean punch from another fighter 60lbs heavier than you is no joke.Last edited by Suckmedry; 10-04-2013, 01:33 AM.

I see a lot of good points in the commentaries made here, but I stick to my belief that the vast progression of athletes in every sport since the 1920s also include boxers.

Yeah, but if we all had the same views, this forum wouldn’t be much fun.

So we're supposed to believe that a 6'7 guy who stopped almost everyone he fought during his peak and has never been knocked down or behind on the cards would lose to some undersized caveman-swinging guy who lost several fights to an obese flyweight?
I see that as a distinct possibility if Vitali enters the ring with an open gash on his face and tears his shoulder in half.

The edge has to go to VK here. Vitali, of course, is going to try to grab Dempsey, lean on him and manhandle him. But I'm certain Dempsey can KO VK if he gets inside the jab and gets clean shots off.
that is a bunch of nonsense.

People say
Lewis-Vitali-Wlad will win a lot of these H2H Match ups not because they are modern super heavys...
but because they are modern super heavys with IMMENSE SKILLS.
They are not only big but extremely skilled......... ATGS themselves.
Being modern had nothing to do with it.. Tyson Fury is big too.. David Price is 6'8. How will David Price do against Joe Frazier?
What about 254 Pound 6'8 Michael Grant vs Joe Louis?
