Retracing the lineal P4P #1 fighter thru the years

Ok, i thought this might be fun and would create some good discussion,,,

Lets retrace the lineal P4P #1 history from present day and work backwards as far as we can,,,

I know p4p lists are very opinionated but usually when it comes who is #1 there is usually a clear cut favorite,,, So i will start it off

    floyd, 2010-present
    manny- 2008-2010
    floyd 2005-2008
    hopkins- 2004-05
    roy jones- 94-04
    pernell- 94-88
    chavez- 86-88 ?????????

Feel free to debate my selections or add your own, I by no means think i have it all figured out,,, I can only go back to about 88 with chavez, then it starts getting really tough, spinks, hearns, hagler, probably forgetting somebody, etc,,,, Was ALi #1 in the early 70s and 60s

Please discuss, lets see how far we can go back

Before Chavez, maybe Hagler? I would think Leonard would be in there somewhere too, probably in the '70s-early '80s with the Hearns/Duran wins.

Lineal refers to a line meaning connected. You could have just said p4p #1.

            What do you guys think?

Prior to the 80's, just to throw some names, maybe Ali, Carlos Ortiz , Duran, Jofre, Monzon?

Years ago we didn't go on & on about a p4p king, it was a casual tag and most serious people waited for fighters to retire before the expression was tagged on. The original p4p King was Sugar Ray Robinson because boxing people felt if Sugar could hold 175+ he could beat any heavy and if he could shrink to 119 his talents would carry him to success there too hence p4p champ!!! Today its blown out of perportion, like the word "great" is used for a good solid fighter!!! Great and p4p used to be special now you have to have atleast one if not 3!!!! Everything in boxing is watered down these days!!!
                Ray.

Ok, thats all well and good,, and i share your sentiments about how things like great, p4p, ATG, get thrown around alot,,
But what do you think about the history of the p4p #1 guy,,, We could use your help,, trying to go back to 1900 if possible,, so far we are kinda stuck in the early 80s
