I think its blown out of proportion these days because of the added weight classes. Its alot easier for guys to win titles in multiple divisions because they only usually have to go up 5 pounds and beat one of 4 champs. Whereas back in the old days you went from 147 to 160 and 160 to 175. Back then if you went up 15 pounds and beat the LEGIT single champ you really were a pound for pound special fighter.

the whole p4p stuff is definitely blown out of proportion, it's ridiculous but it is interesting to see how guys were ranked in the past.

pre-80 and throughout the 70s that tag should belong to either Muhammad Ali or Roberto Duran with maybe Frazier somewhere in between. I can imagine Frazier as p4p no.1 in the early 70s, then Duran pre-74 and Zaire, than Ali till probably 78, Duran again and then of course SRL, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Curry and so on.

Odd title for this thread. Not exactly about lineage.

Who else would you have ahead of Monzon in the early to mid 70s, Duran?
Yes duran and maybe some of the smaller guys like zarate, but maybe my timing on carlos is off. Been trying to think of the top welters back then but am drawing a blank

Granted but Marvelous fought everybody that there was to fight. Though I do agree, fifteen years is something else in itself.
