To me a master boxer would be the likes of:
    Joe Gans
    Ezzard Charles
    Gene Tunney
    Willie Pep
    Larry Holmes
    Marvin Hagler
    Benny Leonard
I would add the ability and strategize in the ring and to outsmart your opponents, and hence, with great sadness, I think I would remove the name in bold, and put in the other Leonard. Trust me, I don't like this thought, but I think it is simply the truth.

More than one, not many, but too many to be on that list.

I am not going to try to convince you, because I love Marvin and I need to go against my guts to say negative things about him, even if I know they are true.

I wouldn't add Hopkins because he can't dictate anything if you out do him in speed and work rate he always falls short chalzage Taylor jones even pascal gave him trouble he was just to much of an idiot to capitalize. So if he was that much of a master boxer he would be able to negate that.

but you might say that those wins don't count except for the first jones win but they seem to count enough that when who ever uses the concept of out hustle him he looses.

What other mistakes did he make?

He was actually trying to be too smart for the Leonard fight which backfired on him and he still won round 3...

To control distance...... Too far away to be hit too close to be effectively hit

Hagler was definently a master boxer, if we are going by fundamentals and technicalities.

Leonard was a better athlete is about it, but in terms of skill, very close.
